Cornucopia ~ Chapter 7 ~ Thanksgiving Wednesday (Part Three and Four of Four)
“Frozen? How can they do that?”
“I don’t know but we’ll find out.”
They didn’t figure it out but they did enjoy their desserts, even though hers was so tall that Jenny had to kneel on her chair to drink it.
When his family exited the restaurant, Irwin hailed a cab but the driver was unwilling to take a group of four. They surrendered that cab to a man and little girl as they exited the same restaurant. The next cab was wiling to take the large group when promised a generous tip. The family crowded into a cab and headed to the northwest.
Jenny and Drew were lucky and immediately upon exiting the restaurant got a cab. An older man held the door open for them and explained, “Our group is too large.”
Jenny and Drew headed northwest to the edge of Central Park where they could watch the balloons for the parade being inflated.

Traffic had been light on the New Jersey Turnpike and Bette had made much better time than she had expected. She looked at the car’s clock and decided that that there was time to take David to see the balloons being inflated for the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Alice was cold and hungry and decided to grab some food at a coffee shop. The booths were crowded with families, so she had to sit at the counter. She washed her bacon cheeseburger and cheese fries down with a chocolate egg cream, one of the things she actually liked about New York. Alice overheard one of the children talking excitedly about seeing Snoopy being inflated for the parade. She asked the waitress where they were going, and she decided to check it out.

Tina had called Ticketmaster and confirmed her suspicion that there were no performances of The Nutcracker on Thanksgiving or Christmas. She took a chance that there was a gay center in San Francisco, three hours earlier, that might be open. There was and it referred her to a health organization that confirmed that AZT was an AIDS drug,
She was certain that no one else in the family knew.
Tina cried some more. By the time she was cried out, she had formed a plan of the type only a 15-year old would devise. Tina called Greyhound for bus schedules to New York. If she caught one at 11 p.m., she would arrive in New York by 10 a.m.

I will say again, you do families very well. I thank you for having Jenny confused by a spud, it’s so apt. A wonderful story Spumoni, and particularly nostalgic for me. I haven’t been able to return to NYC since I left over 3 years ago, and I’d lived there for over 20 years, 10 of the just a few doors east of Serendipty. My brother had had the apartment for years before me, so perhaps I wandered by and didn’t make note of Jenny or Dana. My brother had watched several friends go through what Russ was dealing with. An admirable work all together. I look forward to your next effort as I continue catch up on your older stories that I missed.
Loved the flashbacks, and how in later years they all became friends. thanks for the story Now how about a Christmas one
Good job IceCream I can’t wait for part 4. This is just like a reminder of the last holiday and a gear up for the next. Perfect timing because we have time to enjoy it better than in the middle of a holiday rush. Thank you, Md
“Fuck, Porter, Tina’s the top!” LMAO!! Still claiming this would be first place on my holiday ‘must see’ list if you could bring it to life on the big (or little) screen!!! You have seemlessly woven their lives together… awesome!!!
absolutely loved it…past and present…what a great story
Thank you thank you for a beautiful story and a lovely depiction of my old neighborhood on the upper west side. It was awesome seeing our beloved characters in some of my old haunts, and the convergence is just so…so heartwarming, thank you.
