“It’s the Nesquik Bunny.” a man next to them said helpfully.
“Thank you,” Jenny replied. She then leaned close to her father’s ear and whispered, “What is a Nesquik?”
“I think it is a chocolate drink.”
“Okay.”
They did see Superman, Snoopy, and Big Bird. Both Drew and Jenny knew who they were. Drew had to explain the Pink Panther.

The Fairbanks had walked slowly down 77th Street watching the balloons grow larger as they filled with helium. Sharon and Irwin looked admiringly at the façade of the Museum of Natural History that fronted on the street where the balloons were being inflated.

The cab carrying Russ, Shane, and Laurence was completely locked in by the traffic jam caused by the balloon event. The threesome decided to walk the rest of the way. Russ was excited with anticipation of seeing again one of his favorite New York things. Shane was skeptical that it was going to be a big deal. Laurence was just worried about Russ.
When the reached the corner of Columbus Avenue and 77th Street, Russ took a quick intake of breath, Shane tilted to head to one side and looked, and Laurence worried about the crowd.

“David, we can only stay 15 minutes.. We have to get to the Brandshears so we can get up on time tomorrow for the parade.”
“Yes, Aunt Bette,” David droned in response to the message his aunt had conveyed to him at least five times already.
The excitement of the clusters of people heading to and from their own destination infected aunt and nephew and they smiled at each other, happy to be on the adventure.

The jazz club had had only one set that night, but a couple who were big fans had asked Kit to entertain at the party they held every year in their third floor apartment on 77th Street. It was held to celebrate the balloon inflation and the hosts noticed that the party was always much more light-hearted and fun that the other gatherings they held during the year. Sounds of the party could he heard on the sidewalk below through the apartment’s open windows.

I will say again, you do families very well. I thank you for having Jenny confused by a spud, it’s so apt. A wonderful story Spumoni, and particularly nostalgic for me. I haven’t been able to return to NYC since I left over 3 years ago, and I’d lived there for over 20 years, 10 of the just a few doors east of Serendipty. My brother had had the apartment for years before me, so perhaps I wandered by and didn’t make note of Jenny or Dana. My brother had watched several friends go through what Russ was dealing with. An admirable work all together. I look forward to your next effort as I continue catch up on your older stories that I missed.
Loved the flashbacks, and how in later years they all became friends. thanks for the story Now how about a Christmas one
Good job IceCream I can’t wait for part 4. This is just like a reminder of the last holiday and a gear up for the next. Perfect timing because we have time to enjoy it better than in the middle of a holiday rush. Thank you, Md
“Fuck, Porter, Tina’s the top!” LMAO!! Still claiming this would be first place on my holiday ‘must see’ list if you could bring it to life on the big (or little) screen!!! You have seemlessly woven their lives together… awesome!!!
absolutely loved it…past and present…what a great story
Thank you thank you for a beautiful story and a lovely depiction of my old neighborhood on the upper west side. It was awesome seeing our beloved characters in some of my old haunts, and the convergence is just so…so heartwarming, thank you.
