    the Going Away Party

    Bette moved Dana’s dress and sat down, ” how are you holding up?”

    Dana shook her head, ” not too good Bette”.

    Bette understood where Dana was coming from. Having to juggle a career she has known for most of her life because it wasn’t just a career it was her dream too and a family she loved more than anything.

    Dana looked up into Bette’s eyes, ” what would you do Bette? Because it seems like no matter what I tell Alice, she’ll still make me leave. Even if I told her I’d rather not leave”.

    Bette put an arm around Dana, ” you do know why she’s making you go right? It’s not just about the fact that this is great for you, she feels inferior compared to Wimbledon. I can see where she’s coming from, Tina and I have been there remember? You’ve had tennis your whole life Dana, you never left tennis. Alice probably feels like because you have left her once already, she’s not as important”.

    Dana looked down, ” I never thought about it like that. But she is important Bette, she is MORE important, this is my fault, I should have never left her”.

    Bette saw the tears run down her cheeks, ” you can’t change that now Dana, all you can do is prove to her that she is more important”.

    Dana sighed, ” what am I gonna do?”

    Back at the Planet, Alice had chores for everyone. Bette was in charge of bringing the dress over to Dana and picking up the food and music, Jenny and Tina were putting up the blown up pictures of Dana with friends and family, Carmen was getting the do area ready, Shane was fixing up the bar and had to leave in a little while to pick up Dana, and Kit was letting the people who were coming inside.

    Alice was running around frantically making sure everything was all set. When she saw that everything was in place she walked over to Shane, ” Shane you all set?”

    Shane looked up from playing with a mini umbrella, ” yep, what time is it?”

    Alice looked at her watch, ” it’s 5, I told Dane you’d be there by 5:15, you should get going”.

    6. I just love this story, it´s sweet, heartbreaking and I really feel for Alice. Hopefully she´ll accept the proposal and they´ll be able to manage being apart for a great deal of time.
