Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty One (a HYD-inspired fic)

Bette studied the expression on Tina’s face and concluded that the blonde was serious about her offer. She had a feeling that Tina would be offended if she declined. So against her better judgment, she sucked up what’s left of her Porter pride and allowed her date to pay for their meal. "Okay.." She nodded her head and sighed in resignation.

"Good." Tina smiled, happy that the brunette didn’t put up a fight. Just as her date began to walk away towards the entrance of the pier, Tina stuck her hand inside her front pocket and fished for her money. "Shit." She cursed under her breath when she counted what was left of her allowance for the week.. a measly $8.10. How the hell could I afford to buy food from that place? She panicked as she eyed the expensive-looking restaurants situated in the pier. Now she was regretting being so bold as to propose such a thing as paying for their food.. and to Bette Porter of all people! Oh God, Tina groaned, she was not gonna hear the end of this. She had to think of something.. and fast! "H-hey!" She shouted as she ran after Bette.

"Huh?" Bette raised an eyebrow when she felt Tina forcefully grab her arm and drag her to the opposite direction. "The restaurants are over there.." She pointed to the pier as the blonde pulled her further away.

"We’re not eating there." Tina stated as she hauled Bette towards the other side of the street. "I know a restaurant near this place." She said as she finally relinquished her grip on Bette’s arm after they have crossed to the other side. "The food there is great and the coffee is amazing.." And best of all, the prices are dirt-cheap, she added inside her head. She could easily afford two cups of coffee and a couple of sandwiches from that place.

"Are you sure it’s good?" Bette crossed her arms. "I have delicate taste buds you know." She stated matter-of-fact.

Tina rolled her eyes. I guess there are certain things that never change, she shook her head. "It’s going to be my treat. So you have no say about where we eat Porter." She huffed, taking off in the direction of the restaurant.
