Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 31 (Conclusion and Epilogue)

“I’ve successfully run a gallery on two separate occasions here.  I think I could do it in New York, too.  Take me and the gallery out of the equation.  What do you want?”  She tossed the two make-up remover pads into the trashcan.

“I’d love to make my movie.  But we’re about to have another baby.  All of our friends are here.  Kit’s here.  Stephanie’s here now.”

Bette raised her arms and pulled the dress up and over.

Distracted, Tina said, “You looked so good today in that, baby.  I kept picturing you out of it and looking just like you do right now.”

Bette laughed.  “Thanks, Tee.  I could tell you liked it.”

“I loved it.  I wanted to sweep the turkey and fixin’s off the table and just put you up there and gobble you up.”

“That would have been an interesting Thanksgiving dinner.”  She chuckled.

“That’s why I controlled myself.  But remember what you promised me this afternoon?”

“Oh, yeah.  I-I recall.  You wanted your hands all over me.  Well, Tina, I say to that…all hands on deck.”

Tina moved closer, reached for Bette.  “You’re playin’ my song.”

“Let me jump in the shower.”

“Uh-uh.  I want you just the way you are.”  She moved closer until she could nuzzle Bette’s neck.  “You smell amazing…as usual.”

Tina took Bette’s hand to lead her out.

““Let me just go to the bathroom.  I’ll be right over.”

Bette watched as Tina crossed the hall.  She could have gobbled her, too.  Bette closed the door.

A few minutes later, she came out and again smiled to herself knowing what the night would bring.  Tina pushed Bette onto the bed.  The music was evocative of romance and lovemaking.  Bette watched as Tina dropped her robe and let it fall onto the floor.

Bette didn’t say anything, but smiled at her.  Bette loved the way Tina looked pregnant.  She had enjoyed watching how her body had changed in the last seven and a half months.  She was in awe of the process and more and more, she had been thinking about trying to get pregnant, too—before it was too late. Maybe the fall off the horse during her sophomore year at Yale hadn’t caused the problems the doctor said it had; maybe there’s been enough medical progress in those twenty years that what would have been difficult then is minor now.  Maybe, she thought, I could get pregnant.  It hadn’t crossed her mind before.  It had always been Tina who would carry their children, but some internal, maternal switch had clicked on for her and the idea of experiencing pregnancy and childbirth suddenly appealed to her.

    1. Portia, congrats on finishing this epic! I will always be a fan, and I was very happy to be one of the people to encourage you, and who knows–maybe you’ll have another fanfic in you that will need to come out! You’ve inspired so many of the writers here, so thank you, and I hope we’ll see you around!xoxo

    2. wow what can i say, this story has been the best time and time again and i can say that i’ve enjoyed every bit of it, though I’m extremely sad that this is it for laid up. My favourite couple have obviously been dana and alice, and you’ve written them and their story just perfectly, how it should have been, for me anyway. For every chapter, page and word….THANK YOU PORTIA!!!!!!!!!!! xox

    4. Oh PortiaOnly I can only say a heart felt Thank you for brining us this impressive and comprehensive epic. I have ready this story from the start. It has always amazed me how you wound the pieces of the series into this complete work. I love where you have taken all of them and how it was so true to the characters we have know. Thanks for all you hard work.

    5. Portia, thank you so much for this epic love story. I’m happy that all of the characters are happy and content. The loop holes that the show had created, you have thoroughly patched. That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    6. Thanks so much for sharing this incredible journey with us. This is one of the best and engaging stories I have ever read. You are an remarkable talent!!

    7. Thank you for this story. What an undertaking! You got all the main characters involved and kept me interested. And more importantly, you finished it. I love that!

    9. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    11. Hello PortiaOnly, This story has been an absolute joy to read. It has taken much time and dedication from you to create a momentous melodrama. So many of the images and scenes including dialogue where taken from the show and seemlessly interweaved in to your take on events.I stand up and applaud you and your wonderful talent.Thank you ever so much for sharing it with me.Your Loyal Fan.PS – I hope that you continue to write about these characters and post your work here.

    12. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. 14. PortiaOnly- I hope you receive this message so many years after writing this incredible story but I had to tell you, this is by far one of the most amazing L Word stories I’ve ever read. You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
