    Bette, Tina, Dana, Alice, Shane, Carmen, Helena, Dylan, Kit, Angus, Peggy, and Marilyn discover what John Lennon said in the song, “Beautiful Boy” is absolutely true: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

     

    “Me neither,” Carmen said.

     

    “Yeah, maybe that.”

     

    Shane came around the bed.  Carmen was leaning against the headboard.  Shane got it bed, scooting Carmen over.  She took Carmen’s hand.  “I’m gonna miss you for real.”

     

    “Good.   I want you to miss me,” she said stoically.  Carmen had told herself not to force monogamy on Shane; to remember what kind of woman she was dealing with—Shane fucked around.  She couldn’t change it, so she needed to accept it, but it was difficult.  She loved Shane too much.  That was her problem.  It was just too much.

     

    “I don’t think I’ll be gone a week.  Maybe three or four days.  Just too clear my head.  All right?”

     

    “Yeah, you know it’s all right.  I’m fine with it.  We should get a little rest before you get behind the wheel.  You’re probably tired, too.

     

    “Yeah.”

     

    Carmen started to turn on her side, away from Shane.

     

    “Uh-uh.  Come ‘ere.  Wanna hold you.”

     

    Carmen turned, rested her head on Shane’s shoulder and allowed Shane to wrap her thin arms around her.  To be held like this was really all she needed.  For once, to love a woman who loved her back was really all she wanted.

    In their home, Bette was propped up against the headboard.  She sat on a fluffy pillow, a few inches higher than Tina who sat directly in front of Bette, leaning against her, and encircled by Bette’s legs.  They faced the mirrored vanity and could see their reflections as their bodies rocked together.  One of Bette’s hands fingered Tina’s clit while the other gently massaged one of her enormous breasts.

     

    “Oh, God.  Bette?  Baby.  Jesus.  I can’t… I can’t take anymore.  It’s…Oh, my God.”

     

    Lovers for years, Bette knew how much Tina could take and how she sounded when another orgasm was out of the question.  They weren’t there yet.  They had been going at it for hours off and on.  Tina would get Bette off, they would take a short nap and then Bette would reach for her and make love tenderly and carefully to Tina.  Minutes later, a well aroused Tina would climax and find herself completely spent.  Another nap and then another burst of energy had them repeating the cycle.  The music continued in the background and had moved from the Prego piece to a playlist that featured women singers on piano.  They had been listening to Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Michelle Branch, Sarah McLachlan, Rachael Yamagata, and others.

That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic.     13. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    18. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. I prolonged finishing the last chapter didn’t want t see it end, but like the L word, like tibette chemistry, all good things but come to end….Bravo!! my friend I hope to see a book with your name on it forreal..til next story………

You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible.
