“S.L. Vance.  I’m on my way,” she said and dashed off, happy to have something to do besides think about Tina Kennard, Bette Porter, Helena Peabody, and A.J. Kenter.

“Miss Vance?” asked Sabrina, as she pushed into the room.

“It’s still, Doctor Vance, to you young lady,” stated Samantha Vance with a wagging finger and a hairless eyebrow cocked over her grey eyes.

Samantha Vance was dying a slow death, a lonely one, and painful to boot.  She was in her last stages of leukemia and they were tracking the progress of the cancer.  A bone marrow transplant might give her a second shot at life, but none were to be found as of yet, and time was growing short for Sam Vance.  This was, after all, a teaching hospital.  Samantha kept reminding everyone of that fact when other doctors would grimace at the hell she was putting herself through.  Her death might help someone learn or keep her from being alone in her last moments on earth.

“Yes ma’am Dr. Vance,” Sabrina said with a salute, her lips pulling into a smile and Sam snorted at Sabrina’s dramatics.  Sam motioned to the wheelchair and Sabrina advanced it.  She helped Sam into the chair and Sam reached for the hat at the end of the bed.  Sabrina grabbed it and handed it to her, a Spiderman emblem was prominently displayed on the front and Sabrina had to smile.  Sam had been something of a superhero when she’d been an ER doctor, she’d entered college at 13 and had been a medical doctor at the ripe age of 21 and had been a brilliant doctor up until a year before. Now here she was, 32 years old, and stricken with a disease that robbed her of her true love, medicine. Sam kept her chin up and forged on the short path that was left of her life.

“Where are we off to today, Dr. Stevens?”

                “MRI.”

“Again?  I think they are breaking in new radiologists and are using me as a guinea pig.  How goes the battle, Bree?” asked Sam,  tugging her hat lower onto her head as they made their way down in the elevator.  Sabrina couldn’t answer how it was going, because she really didn’t know how it was going.  They waited patiently in radiology and before they knew it, the MRI was done and they were on their way back to Samantha’s room, once again in silence.

    1. I’m just thrilled to see this in print again. Angie is so cute. Plus Sam is in this one/ Plus the whole gang. I’m still waiting on a Novel so it can grace my coffee table under glass and dare anyone to touch it. Hopefully Peggy will take care of Helena, and the good Dr will help Bette away from Tinas Mother. Somethings never changes Tinas Mother is a Bi%%h in this one also. thanks for posting bvh

    2. Seriously you hit al the emotions. I feel anger toward Helena…sympathy for Sabrina’s situation…sadness for Bette in having to bring AJ home without Tina…annoyance at Tina’s Mom showing up and taking over now…scared for Marina…and I am laughing my butt off at AJ’s commentary. FANTABULOUS chapter!

    3. It is fantastic. Please continue.. I love Marina and her sister. Held prisoner by Diane. All your stories are really good. I am already enjoying this. Please continue..

    4. Hello tJR, Oh I am all for the serious moments it just makes any tender and cute ones that much more powerful. I can see there being a lot of issues rising up not only for Bette and Tina but also the rest of this ever growing family. You have such an amazing way of creating unique and different scenarios for each of these groups of characters that intertwine with one another to create on incredible journey. Never fear I’m here till the end (you just better make sure thats a long ways off :P). Hugs, JC
