Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 43
Tina listened to Bette’s comforting words and suddenly everything became clear to her and Tina Kennard made a decision. The most unselfish decision she had ever made. She decided to tell Bette about Christina, here and now, and put her trust in their love and leave everything to fate and to Bette’s heart.
Tina pulled Bette closer into her embrace and said in shaky voice, feeling very nervous and emotional, “Bette, there’s something I need to tell you. Promise me you won’t get mad or upset…”
“Tee, what is it? You’re scaring me…” Bette tightened her grip on Tina’s waist.
“Promise me that you won’t jump to conclusions but will think about it calmly and talk to me first,” Tina repeated with determination of an inmate on a death row who is about to sat down in the electric chair.
“Okay, I promise, I won’t get mad or upset, will think calmly and talk to you,” Bette squeezed Tina’s hand for assurance.
“And remember, I love you with all my heart and I will always love you,” Tina said sincerely, hoping that Bette would always have this knowledge about her feelings.
“Tee, I love you too…what is it? Please, just tell me…you’re worrying me…”
“Well,” Tina took a deep breath, “I didn’t tell you this before but…” she was interrupted by loud screaming and noise coming from someone running towards them.
They both turned their heads as they heard Alice’s frantic voice, “Guys, guys…you have to come quick. I just got a phone call from the South Coast Medical Center. Kit was on her way here to spend the weekend with us and she got in a terrible car accident. They wouldn’t give me the details…Bette, you need to talk to them…she listed you as her next of kin and we need to call Melvin and David.”
Alice was breathless and her hair looked disheveled from running, and suddenly the events of a similar day that happened three months ago rushed vividly through Bette’s mind and the world began spinning around her in slow motion.
Bette saw herself and Christina standing under the same sequoia tree and hugging each other really tight in the darkness; Alice running towards them and taking her away from her beloved; talking to Alice and hearing the shot and then seeing Christina lying dead underneath their special tree; and then Alice and she were running towards the time portal, away from the shadows that were chasing them.
