The Dying of the Light Part 24

It wasn’t like she deserved Shane to be there anyway.

Throwing herself down on the bed she reclined against the pillows.  “Sweet bed Bette.”  Came the casual statement.  “I could spend hours here.”  A statement on intent; warning Bette that she wasn’t leaving and that no matter of ill will would force her hand.

“Go!”  Bette yelled.  Control, where was her control of this situation.

“No.”  Shane replied as she starting to look through the draws.  “Look, cards.  Feel like playing a little poker.”  As pointless as it was to play with only 2 people.

“Shane, I don’t want you here.”  Bette tried again, “just get out.”

Shane grinned as she started to shuffle the cards.  “If you don’t want to play I think this calls for a little solitaire.”

Bette was furious, her cheeks were flushed.  “You think  you are so great,”  Bette started as she advanced towards the bed, her hands clinching and unclenching with restless emotion.  “You’re not.  Mummy and Daddy didn’t even want you and dumped you, left the ugly duckling all alone.”

Shane hiked her eyebrow, she was warned that Bette may manifest anger.

“Left you to turn tricks on the street, taking money and jacking off complete strangers.  Did you enjoy it?”  Bette asked as she reached the side of the bed “The ugly old dicks.”  She spat, “did you get off on them like the cheap whore you are.”

Pulling Shane up by the arm, “cheap whore and filthy bitch.  You haven’t changed a bit.  You only whore for your next hit now”

Adrenaline pumped and with an unexpected burst of energy she pulled Shane to her feet and threw her in the general direction of the door.  Making her stumble bought a caustic smile to her lips; “get out of my room and never come back.”  She ordered, sure that Shane would leave.

Knowing that she would finally have cut the last link.  Physical death may not be in her near future, but this was almost as good.  At least she wouldn’t have to hurt them anymore.

This one last hurt wouldn’t make a difference… it would spare her from the future.

“GET OUT!”  Bette screamed, slapping Shane across the cheek.  “Go,” another slap.

“No.” Shane whispered.  The words stung, but the Bette she knew would never say that.  This wasn’t her, she was too wounded and scared to mean what she was saying.

    1. Hi there, dear sweet Deean! Our nephew JC informed us you were in the Spotlight this week. We will make sure to join you over there, tonight. As for the story, we knew Shane was not going to curl and go hiding, leaving Bette alone. She knows her friend needs more that soft words. The assurance that she will not leave, no matter what, is exactly what Bette needs. Plus, know that she deserves to be taken care of by one of her loyal friends. Yep. Excellent choice. We are sure that Shane will make Bette to exteriorize those ugly demons that are playing games with her self esteem. Great update, dearest friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)

    2. This chap made me cry too. It’s like I really feel Bette’s pain too. I’m glad Shane has a thick skin and didn’t fall for Bette’s plan to get rid of her. I only hope Shane can get Bette to see she’s loved so much by the rest of the family and they need her back with them. PPS!!
