The Dying of the Light Part 24

Her legs felt cramped as she lay on the bed, nerves twitching.  Anxious.  Excited.  She didn’t want to get up, didn’t want to move.  She was tired.  Her bones themselves felt weary, her limbs heavy.  But her nerves could stop twitching.

Shane was meant to be here.  A promise was made, and a word was taken.  Words mean things, and they mean it because we let them.

Bette hung onto them like a baby to a teat.  They were her life, an existence that transcended skin, blood and bones.

    They freed.

    Words trapped.

Bette trapped Shane with her words.  Made her giver her word; to be the only person who visited her here.  It wasn’t fair.  There was beauty outside of these walls and she should stop letting Shane visit.

Stop brining her into the dungeon and torturing her for joy.

Throwing herself up out of bed Bette tries to calm her jangled nerves by walking.

1, 2, 3 she counted.  Each step then meant something.  A purpose to their limited existence.  Without a purpose there was no point.

With a purpose she still wasn’t sure.

“Sorry I’m late B,”  Shane called, running into the room, closing the door before throwing herself onto the bed.  She parked the car in the middle of no where and had spent the last 5 minute running in circles until she found her way.

There were times she hated LA.

“I got stuck parking halfway across the fucking country.”  Catching her breath she looked up at Bette who stared back with wide eyes, obviously shocked by the outburst.

“But I’m here now, and that’s the good thing.  Have you had lunch yet?”  Natalie had told Shane that she shouldn’t confront Bette about her eating, that she should be there for positive support and not negative.

Fuck that, Shane was there for Bette Porter, and if Bette Porter doesn’t eat she wont be around much longer.

The brunette had traded a quick suicide for a slow one.

Bette shook her head, eyes trained firmly on her friend.  She didn’t think she was coming.  She thought Shane had wised up and decided to spend time with Carmen, with the others.

“Hi.” She whispered.  The words she wanted to say just wouldn’t come out.  Maybe with time.

    1. Hi there, dear sweet Deean! Our nephew JC informed us you were in the Spotlight this week. We will make sure to join you over there, tonight. As for the story, we knew Shane was not going to curl and go hiding, leaving Bette alone. She knows her friend needs more that soft words. The assurance that she will not leave, no matter what, is exactly what Bette needs. Plus, know that she deserves to be taken care of by one of her loyal friends. Yep. Excellent choice. We are sure that Shane will make Bette to exteriorize those ugly demons that are playing games with her self esteem. Great update, dearest friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)

    2. This chap made me cry too. It’s like I really feel Bette’s pain too. I’m glad Shane has a thick skin and didn’t fall for Bette’s plan to get rid of her. I only hope Shane can get Bette to see she’s loved so much by the rest of the family and they need her back with them. PPS!!
