The Other Side of the Game Part 4
Candace: Well theres nothing wrong with that.
Mikela: No. Its just that Joe just seems to be a little too optimistic to me, almost nave in a way.
Candace: Hmm, well what you may see as overly optimistic I think could just be confidence.
Just then the waiter brought their appetizers and took their entre orders. Once he walks away Mikela picks their conversation back up.
Mikela: Maybe, Ill concede to that, but for this project we have some fierce competition. Besides, I think Holloman may have underbid us.
Candace: That doesnt make it a lock. Hey, I usually never have the lowest bid, so I have to compensate with a better design in creativity and quality. Like for instance, the contract for Provocations, I was actually the highest bid. But I got the job because I had original ideas for displaying the works.
Mikela: With just a touch of bitterness laced in her voice from the mention of Provocations, says Oh really. The change in tone is so subtle that Candace fails to pick up on it and continues with her example.
Candace: Yeah. I just told Bette my ideas and explained to her that in order to get the quality of work I do in a timely manner she would have to loosen those purse strings up a little more than she was accustomed to doing.
Mikela: Sarcastically inquires, And you got the contract just like that huh?
Candace gives Mikela a curious look before answering, Yeeeah.
Mikela: Still sarcastically retorts, Well, good for you.
Candace then realizes that the topic of Bette Porter is till a sore one for Mikela. Quickly, she leads the conversation into a new topic. Well, now that Provocations is over, I can start back focusing on my new project.
Mikela: Thankful to be off the subject of Bette Porter, asks Which is?
Candace: You know that childrens center off of LaCienega?
Mikela: Yes
Candace: We are remodeling a couple of rooms there.
Mikela: Really?
Candace: Yep. They cant afford to pay us much, just enough to cover materials. So we wont make a profit, but its for a good cause. So I figured we can afford it.
Mikela: Repeats this time sincerely, well good for you. In response to her compliment Candace just smiles and nods.
