Too Much Time on My Hands Has a Sequel and Now I Need a Better Title

With those words, Helena got out and closed the door gently behind her.

While she walked, Helena took deep calming breaths, trying to shake the last 24 hours off. It had been an experience, like any other, and she couldn’t help that it had ended so quickly. She was crazy about Bette, but people were complicated.

Helena wondered if she’d ever find some kind of lasting relationship.

She veered off when she found a stretch of beach. Her feet were sore, and she needed to scream, to vent her frustrations. A swim in the ocean, followed by some underwater shouting should help her state of mind.

The next morning, a miserable looking Bette walked into the Planet and plunked herself down in front of Alice, Shane and Jenny.

    “Hallo sad muffin.” Alice said.

“Hey.” Bette mumbled. “Where’s Helena?” She tried to keep her voice casual. The others shrugged, except for Alice who glanced around.

“Oh, I guess she only called me. Well she found a new house, just on the edge of the city. I’m going over there for dinner tonite. She’ll probably invite the rest of you when she has, you know, furniture and stuff.” Alice wiggled around in her seat as she spoke, sipping her tea contentedly. Her time with Lara had been fantastic. They were making plans to see one another again in a week, but she kept it to herself for the time being.

“How’s her work going?” Bette had to repeat her question twice. The first time she spoke, she mumbled unhappily into her hand.

“Fine, just fine.” Alice shrugged. “She’s got this whole thing going with math—though, cuuuutest thing, she calls it ‘maths’!—and…and…” Alice trailed off, looking up at the ceiling. “I actually don’t understand what she’s doing. Sometime to do with math and algebra and art and teaching children about all of that stuff and how it actually fits together, unlike how they learn it in school.”

“Cool.” Shane nodded. “She’s good with kids. I’d love to see what she’s doing.”

Alice leaned forward, regarding them. “Aw, fuck it, why don’t you all just come out to the house. She won’t mind, it’s just that I’m bringing take out and we were going to just sit on the beach, nothing fancy.” Shane and Jenny nodded but Bette continued to look unhappily into her coffee cup.  “Bette, that includes you. Come on, a night on the beach will do you good.” She sighed with relief when Bette finally agreed. “Good! Let’s meet up at my place around 6 and I’ll take you there.”

    1. Well that was beyond hot. I love the family scenes too (Wilson and his tea party!). Helena’s kids remind me (in spirit at least) of Edina’s eccentric offspring on Ab Fab; luckily for them, Helena’s parenting skills are considerably more evolved than Edina’s. And Tina? I always suspected she’d end up with a tofu farmer. As for the parallel-universe explanation, it’s fiction so why not? Bette and Helena rule in all three dimensions!

    2. okay, i just exhaled…and a few other things…whew…that’s about all i can say…delicious, decadent…umph! you sure don’t leave anything to the imagination…can’t wait for the next installment..,

    3. You know there is a time when words can not be express for a situation and this is that time. If I had to choose between any of your stories as my favorite, I honestly could not or would not. Thanks for taking the time to share it. When I wonder can you top your last one you always seem to come through.Terrific as always!

    4. Ive been reading your stories this past week, and I love your style of writing. I can’t wait to read the next installments.PS. Fuck Tina’s brains, off with her fucking head

    5. Gee…one plant is either one too many or not nearly enough. They keep going like that, neither one should have too many insecurities about the other. But helebette, it occurs to me that you have a real vendetta about Tina’s brains. They were eaten by zombies in “Planet Terror”, you just gave her a lobotomy in “Life Happens” and now in this one she’s dating a farmer who grows tofu(?) on what may be a cult compound, which would require the complete absence of brains. Jesus, what did she ever do to you?

    6. i really, really luv your writing, and of course the pairing of helebette, but my favorites of yours, were the ones where they have the conflicts, but have no choice but to cum together anyway, i think when they are both in full alpha mode, and trying to fight the attraction but to no avail is so damn hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
