What I Want for Christmas – Part IV
With that bon mot Al was off. After refreshing Angelica’s sippy cup and giving her some crayons and paper, Tina sat down and opened the envelope from Bette.
The plain envelope belied the heavy card stock within that was distinctly Bette.
Ti,
When words fail me, I turn to those who can more eloquently say what I’m feeling. The words may not be mine, they belong to Vera Pavlova, but the sentiment is my truth, our truth, if we choose to embrace it.
Love,
Bette
Excerpt from Four Poems
If there is something to desire,
there will be something to regret.
If there is something to regret,
there will be something to recall.
If there is something to recall,
there was nothing to regret.
If there was nothing to regret,
there was nothing to desire.
——
Let us touch each other
while we still have hands,
palms, forearms, elbows . . .
Let us love each other for misery,
torture each other, torment,
disfigure, maim,
to remember better,
to part with less pain.
——
We are rich: we have nothing to lose.
We are old: we have nowhere to rush.
We shall fluff the pillows of the past,
poke the embers of the days to come,
talk about what means the most,
as the indolent daylight fades.
We shall lay to rest our undying dead:
I shall bury you, you will bury me.
Tina started to cry after the first stanza and by the end there was a flood of tears. Angelica, didn’t know why her mother was crying, she abandoned her scribbles and gave Tina a hug.
“Mama, need band aid, Mama need kiss… make better.” Angelica’s concerned expression brought a fresh round of tears to Tina’s eyes.
“I’m fine Angel, Mama’s just fine.”
*****
The doorbell rang again as Tina was putting together lunch for herself and Angelica. Again Angelica ran to the door and Tina followed close behind and when she opened it she found Bette standing there, with one of her trademark, killer smiles. Tina realized that she hadn’t seen one in so long she had forgotten how it transformed Bette’s features. It made her weak in the knees.
She put hands to the sides of Bette’s face and pulled her in for a kiss, she kissed Bette as deeply as she could as the tears sprung from her eyes.

hurray…bette made the right decision :)
Madcapper, this is the first story I have read of yours, Magnificent, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how you ended it with a grand romatic gesture, practical enough for Tina to appreciate, with enough sacrifice in it for Tina to see that nothing is more important to Bette than Tina anymore.
Mads…That was wonderful. PP again. Like an epilogue??? pretty please.
That was wonderful, Some choices changes your whole life. Bette just did, thanks
I so looked forward to this story PLease continue with epilogue.
yeah what toby4ever said and more…great…loved it all…don’t stop writing plz.
I will NEVER remove you from my favourite authors list.
that was really super sweet. such a great story, in that kinda romantic way that i’m actually a real sucker for. awwwwwww, good one madcap. look at me, getting all mushy over tibette. it takes some good writing for that to happen! hehe:)
i would love another story that picks up where this one left off-great
Nice ending.
“You’re the co-pilot, I think you should have some input.” Well done!
Hello Madcapper, that was so super sweet, I love how you had Tina self medicating herself with time spent with their daughter, that is exactly what I would be doing if the love of my life was not there with me to share in it. The way you had Bette was brilliant, that is how I see her, she can’t really physically show her emotions, she has been raised to feel that they are a weakness and sometimes this never gets released, but she does turn to others to help her in her time of need… this was so beautiful and romantic and it was the gesture that Tina needed… the car signifies her desire to be with her family, for her family and for herself. This was beautiful and so very emotional… please come back soon. Sincerely, JC
So our girls are back together. They are the family that they should have been all along. I loved how Angie wanted to take care of her mamma when she was crying her eyes out. Please write soon.
So glad Bette saw the light of day. Damn she’s good. Tina, what a great job of getting Bette to see what you already knew she felt.
I’m happy that Bette make the right decision and that she gave up controll to Tina. Now please continue your Story “How the WeHo West was won”. PLEASE
Oh my…That was just perfect! However, I would always love to read more so feel free to bring on the epilogue.
Thanks for a great wrap-up!!! What a brilliant story!!!
So let’s all go for a ride.
That was awesome and Bette, you go girl. Good Bette make a right decision and can’t to see they live together. Please post more, thanks!
