What I Want for Christmas – Part IV

Bette broke the kiss. “I have something else for you outside.”

“I don’t need anything else.” Tina replied.

Bette took Tina and Angelica by hand and led them outside. In Tina’s driveway, parked behind the Prius was a BMW station wagon.

    “Bette you’re crazy. I don’t need it.”

“I sold a piece to Peggy that she’s wanted from my collection. The remainder went into Angelica’s college fund,” Bette said, trying to pull at Tina’s pragmatic heartstrings.

Tina thought Bette was being reckless, impulsive, and crazy. Not only was art precious to Bette, it made up the bulk of her assets. If Peggy wanted the piece than surely the art would have appreciated, selling something to buy her a car was nuts. She was going to say something to that effect when she realized what Bette was trying to say. If Bette was willing to sell a piece of her collection so she could purchase a grand romantic gesture for Tina than she would be more than willing to sell if a real fiscal emergency arose again.

Tina held out her hand for the keys and Bette placed them there with kiss.

    “Let’s go for a drive.”

Tina fed her daughter as quickly as possible while Bette transferred the car seat.

Bette settled into the passenger seat and buckled up while Tina got Angie squared away.

Tina got behind the wheel, started her nice, new piece of Bavarian engineering and backed them out of the driveway, she was down the street and Bette still hadn’t said anything.

“Don’t you want to know where we’re going, make suggestions, plan the route…?”

“No, I trust you’ve got it under control.”

“You’re the co-pilot, I think you should have some input.”

“True, but sometimes, it’s nice to just sit back and relax, you don’t have to know where you’re going to enjoy the journey of getting there, sure there may be some traffic that could have been avoided or bumps in the road you couldn’t, but the unexpected can happen as well, nice surprises, and sometimes you learn something new… I have faith in my co-pilot, I don’t need to know all the details of the route today, I know I’m going have a lifetime to share the driving.”

    1. Madcapper, this is the first story I have read of yours, Magnificent, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love how you ended it with a grand romatic gesture, practical enough for Tina to appreciate, with enough sacrifice in it for Tina to see that nothing is more important to Bette than Tina anymore.

    2. that was really super sweet. such a great story, in that kinda romantic way that i’m actually a real sucker for. awwwwwww, good one madcap. look at me, getting all mushy over tibette. it takes some good writing for that to happen! hehe:)

    3. Hello Madcapper, that was so super sweet, I love how you had Tina self medicating herself with time spent with their daughter, that is exactly what I would be doing if the love of my life was not there with me to share in it. The way you had Bette was brilliant, that is how I see her, she can’t really physically show her emotions, she has been raised to feel that they are a weakness and sometimes this never gets released, but she does turn to others to help her in her time of need… this was so beautiful and romantic and it was the gesture that Tina needed… the car signifies her desire to be with her family, for her family and for herself. This was beautiful and so very emotional… please come back soon. Sincerely, JC

    4. So our girls are back together. They are the family that they should have been all along. I loved how Angie wanted to take care of her mamma when she was crying her eyes out. Please write soon.

    5. I’m happy that Bette make the right decision and that she gave up controll to Tina. Now please continue your Story “How the WeHo West was won”. PLEASE
