    just another love story from the beginning.

     

    “Surprise!  Happy birthday!”  Dana jumps from the unexpected noise and is scared speechless.  The aspect of joy written on her face is priceless as she surveys her surroundings.  She spins around to see Alice standing in the doorway grinning happily from ear to ear.  Dana pulls her into a steaming kiss; the crowd goes wild.  “Happy birthday, sweetheart”, Alice manages to say once Dana frees her mouth.  “Thank you, baby.  I had no idea”.  Alice smirks and says, “That’s the idea of a surprise birthday party, sweetheart”.  Dana gestures, “I’m surprised you were even able to keep your mouth shout”.  Before Alice can comment, Dana is suddenly wrapped in a swarm of arms and is pleased to realize that it’s Shane, Tina and Bette and receives kisses strategically placed on her cheeks.  “Hey there, birthday girl.  It’s about time you showed up”.  Shane knowingly faces Alice and shakes her head.  “I can’t help it.  She wants me twenty four seven.  I barely made it out alive tonight”.  Dana convincingly looks at her friends and says, “I have no idea what Alice is talking about.  She said she wanted to stay at home”.  Three pairs of eyes disapprovingly stare at Alice waiting for her next line of excuses.  Alice chews on her button lip while she contemplates her options, “Food, I need food” and makes a bee line for the buffet table.  Tina smiles and says, “She must really be hungry to let us get away with that one”.  Bette has a playful expression on her face when she says to Dana, “I haven’t had the pleasure of knowing you two that long, but I doubt it was Alice that kept us waiting”.  Dana innocently bashes her eye lids and doesn’t admit or deny Bette’s assumptions.  Instead she says, “Come on, girls.  Let’s party”.

     

    Two hours into the fun, the party is still alive with bodies swaying to the music, having fun, drinking, laughing; just being merry.  “Dana loves being the center of attention.  It’s a good thing she plays tennis”, Kit says as she joins Bette, Shane and Tina at a table situated near the dance floor.  “Kit, where the ***** have you been?  I haven’t seen you in ages” Tina asks as she reaches for a hug.  “It is so good see you.  I take it work is keeping you very busy”.  Kit eyed Tina and states, “Actually, it’s your friends that keep me busy.  If I didn’t have to work so late, I would be at home chilling in front of the television with my feet up”.  Shane smiles and contradicts with, “Kit, you love us just as much as we love you.  Besides, there is no place you would rather be”.  Tina makes introductions of Bette and Kit not knowing that the two of them have known each other since they were children; their true identity would be kept secret until Bette is ready to reveal them for who they really are.  “Bette, so you are the one that is keeping our Tina from us?  I must say, she does have great taste”.  Kit mentally thinks, ‘Beauty is a hereditary trait in our family’.  Taking the sly comment for what it is Bette replies, “I’m just glad she decided that I was the one for her”.  Unbeknown to them, Shane is intently watching the interaction and senses a familiarity between the two women.  She silently ponders, ‘I wonder what is going on here’.
