    Ash gets a visitor and the past rears its beautiful face… again

    “Leave,” I said coldly, not allowing her to see how much of a mess I was on the inside; not letting myself beg her to go so that I could cry in her wake; not making it apparent that my heart was breaking all over again, despite me thinking she could never affect me like that again…never.  I might as well have still been that naive nineteen year old that she took advantage of all those years ago… except for one major difference… I had the upper hand at DJC, and I could make her life there hell.

    “I’m sorry, Ashley,” was all she said as she walked away from me, dejectedly, and silently closed my front door behind her.

    I was surprised when the tears I thought I’d shed failed to fall from my eyes.  Instead I delved into a kitchen cabinet and pulled out the bottle of Jack that had been patiently waiting for me since I’d bought him that weekend.  I hurriedly unscrewed the cap and brought the neck to my lips, extremely satisfied by the way he burned on the way down.

    Grabbing some ice, and my last clean tumbler, I headed into the lounge and threw myself down on my couch, ready for a night of serious wallowing.

    Three drinks later and I was bored with staring at the blank television screen… I hadn’t even realized until then that I’d never actually gotten round to turning it on.  I grabbed the remote to my stereo and selected cd 2 – a fantastically depressing compilation of all the songs that made you want to tear your hair out, slit your wrists and curl up and cry for days, or, when you were already depressed as hell, made you feel empowered and understood because someone else in the world shared your pain.  Ha.  Track 16 held the answers for me as I lay back and let the alcohol numb my brain; blur my memory.

    Don’t be afraid of letting go…  not of anything, not of anyone

    Now, I decided, was as good a time as any to finally allow myself to think about the past; to admit to myself that all was not well and that I wasn’t completely over what had happened; to let myself cry properly for the first time in years… all safely in the knowledge that I could lie to myself in the morning, and put my emotional state down to the alcohol and not my broken heart and bruised ego….

    2. Wow. Now we know why Ash is pissed. I would be too if the person I was falling in love with did that to me. Update soon, would ya? I’m ready for some more “project new girl”. :] Woot. And I think there might just be more behind the story then what is at first revealed. Hmm?
