Daniel:  Well, if I play on a team or play golf, I’ll need specialty shoes.

Bette:  Well, just get what you need to play pickup games. Oh, and get a couple of extra white shirts. And if they have underwear, get at least two weeks’ worth of that. Don’t forget to get ties to match.

Daniel:  Wow… that’s a lot of stuff.

Bette:  Well, it’s what it takes to have you ready for school. Now do you want me to help you select what you want, or do you want to do all the selecting yourself?

Daniel:  I’ll do the selection then you review and tell me what you think. For example, I think I’m going to get three pairs of gray pants, three pairs of black pants and one pair of the burgundy pants. I am going to get five pair of the black sports shorts and three pair of the burgundy shorts. I am going to get two pair of the khaki cargo shorts. I am going to get three black golf shirts, three burgundy golf shirts, and five white golf shirts. I going to get two black dress shirts, two burgundy dress shirts, five white dress shirts. I want three long sleeve v-neck sweaters – one in gray, one in black and one in burgundy. And three sweater vests in the same colors. I will get three jackets – one gray, one black and one burgundy. And ties- I’ll get six – three in stripes and three solids in matching colors.  All my dress shoes will be black and my sports shoes will be white. Oh, and I need belts – all black. I’ll also need dress socks and sports socks.  Dress socks will all be in black and sports socks will all be in white.

Bette:  Sounds like you know what you’re doing. Just make sure that they fit or just slightly large on you.  That way, they will last until Christmas.  Here we are.  Ready?

Daniel:  Ready!

Bette and Daniel went in and was greeted by the store proprietor. He confirmed the school as Whittington Elementary.  He had a new shipment of uniforms as he anticipated the back-to-school buying would be heavy in the next few weeks. He then insisted on measuring Daniel to assure that he would get the proper fit.  He suggests that he get his shoes first and then try on a complete outfit and then assemble his wardrobe.  The whole process took about an hour and a half.  Bette just stood back and watch her son work with the store proprietor. He was decisive in his decisions but polite to the store owner. The store owner was smiling at Daniel all the way to his eyes.  He was enjoying this young man.
