    Children of the Night Ch6

The security guard was chasing after them.  Carmen was running surprisingly fast.  After all, Shane suspected that she might have done this many times.

“You are so dead, Carmen!!  Wait ‘till I get my hands on you!”  Shane was shouting in between her heavy breathing.

“Shane, you should do more exercise.  The guard is catching up!”  Carmen shouted back.

There were at least 4 blocks away from the music store now and the guard seemed to have given up on chasing them.  Shane stopped still panting.  She bent her head down, trying to get more oxygen to her brain quicker.

    Carmen came back for Shane.

”Hey, are you ok?”  She asked with a concern tone.

“No! Thanks to you.”  She replied angrily.

“I am just spicing up your life.  You are so jaded.  You looked so lost in the store.  Did you even notice that?”  Carmen asked her patiently.

“I was doing fine before you came along!”  Shane was still panting heavily but she admitted silently that her heart was pounding with excitement at the same time.

“OK, if you really hate being with me so much.  I will give you a chance.  If you catch me, then I will let you off the hook and you can go back to your pathetic life right away.  It’s a one time offer.”  Carmen said seriously.

Before Shane could reply, Carmen ran off towards the subway station.  Carmen was running past the busy commuters with ease. Shane was having a hard time keeping her within distance.

Carmen jumped over the barriers and just glided past the closing train doors.  Shane followed, but she was too late to hop onto the leaving train.  Shane slammed her hand on the glass of the train door as Carmen was waving back at her victoriously.

Carmen was enjoying her moment, but after the train left the platform, she was soon plotting her next move.  She thought that Shane would get on the next train to follow her, so she decided to get off at the next station and would wait for Shane to show herself.

Carmen got off the train at the next station and saw that the display showed the next train were not due for another 10 minutes.   After surveying her surroundings, she found a perfect spot for keeping an eye out for Shane.
