“Well, hello!”
“Hiiiiiiiii.”
AJ smiled.
“Everyone, this is Adam, Lexie and AJ.”
“We met last night, Baby Girl.”
“Right. With Tina.”
Bette looked at the door. No Tina.
“Where’s Ms. Tee-na?”
“She’s not here yet.”
AJ looked at the door too. No Tina.
“Why isn’t she here?”
“Because she hasn’t arrived.”
AJ’s face crinkled up.
“But doesn’t she live here with you? Isn’t this her home?”
Everyone looked at Bette. Bette’s eyes darted around.
“Bud…”
Bette mouthed, “it’s okay”, to Adam.
“Why do you think Ms. Tina lives here?” Bette asked AJ.
“Cuz of the way you look at each other,” AJ said matter of factly.
AJ shrugged his little shoulders.
“And how do we look at each other?”
“Like Mommy and Daddy and Auntie Jenny and Auntie Holly,” AJ smiled.
Bette looked at Adam.
“Jenny is my sister and Holly is her wife.”
Bette nodded.
“Yup. Like you and Ms. Tee-na.”
“Monkey Man!” Lexie said.
“Yes, Mommy?”
“I don’t think Ms. Bette wants to talk about it.”
AJ looked at Bette. He gave her a hug. Bette hugged him back. AJ lifted his head and smoothed back Bette’s hair. Everyone stared at the two of them. They were a pair.
“Does it make you sad?”
AJ put his hand on Bette’s cheek. Tears welled up in Bette’s eyes.
“A little bit.”
“It’s okay to cwy.”
“Because everyone cries.”
“Yup. Mommy cwies. I cwy. Even Daddy cwies. Right, Daddy?”
“That’s right, Bud! Everyone cries.”
“Seeee.”
They all laughed.
“Thanks, AJ.”
“Welcome.”
Shane cleared her throat.
“Who wants to go swimming?”
“Meeeeeee,” AJ said.
“I like your hair.”
“Thanks, AJ. I like yours too.”
AJ smiled.
“Is it okay if we jump in?” Shane asked Lexie.
“Pweeeze.”
“Yes. Go. Go. Show Shane your special trick.”
“You have a special trick?”
“Yup.”
“Let’s see it.”
Bette put AJ down. AJ started towards the pool. Then he turned around and looked up at Bette. Bette was wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
“You coming too, Ms. Bette?”
AJ hugged Bette’s leg.
“In a minute.”
“Okayyy.”
AJ took off running and screamed “CANNON BALL” as he jumped in the pool.
Shane did the same.

“I can’t believe you bought a one piece,” Alice said as they pulled in front of the house.

Great chapter!
Bette and AJ and together with Tina, he is so smart and adorable! Very clever from him to let them join him in the pool.
Bette is ready to try to rebuild their relationship and Tina comes with that line, “Things that will most likely break your heart…some more.”. But they have to make a clean start and this is necessary to put everything out and then away to never come back.
I’m sad the end is coming but also looking forward to the next chapter.
Thank you so much! I’ll be tackling a GenQ storyline when I’m done with this one. This my first attempt at fanfic and it has been such a privilege writing this story. When it’s all done, I’ll go back and read it from start to finish to see what I could’ve done better.
Bette is ready to rebuild but she’s also nervous. She portrays alpha but we know she’s fragile. So I’m excited to see how Tina navigates her fragility and how Bette hopefully starts to forgive her. But I don’t know. We shall see.
Next chapter is going to be a doozy for sure!
AJ is my absolute favorite. I kinda wish I wrote him as an orphan or something. I love the way Bette and AJ interact.
You are a great writer, your writing style is really good, don’t think you have to change anything. I especially love how you write their inner thoughts. The story flows and keeps you wanting more.
I adore AJ, maybe you can add him in your new story. Bette doing something for a orphan house, they meet and Bette and him bond immediately and Bette wants to adopt him, giving him the warm and loving home he deserves. I am adopted and it would be so great to read something like that. But whatever you’re new story will be about, i will certainly read it!
