    Freedom Fest Ch 9

Alice knocked quietly and was surprised to find that the bathroom door was not locked.  She didn’t hear Dana getting sick so she figured it was safe to enter.  Seeing Dana sitting on the floor with her head hanging low and tears flowing freely tore at Alice’s heart.  “Dane, are you okay?”

Dana simply nodded, unsure whether or not she would be able to make words come out around the knot in her throat.

“You surprised me.  I wasn’t expecting what you said.”  Alice hesitated.  “Dane, please look at me.”

Dana shook her head.  The look in Alice’s eyes told Dana everything and she didn’t want to be looking at Alice’s when Alice told her she didn’t feel the same way.  Dana knew it was too soon, knew she would scare Alice with her words, but she just had to tell her.

Alice placed a finger under Dana’s chin and lifted, making Dana look at her.  “I’m trying hard not to do the same thing and it’s not working.”

Dana didn’t know what to think.  Did she just say she is trying to fall in love with me and it’s not working?  What the hell is that supposed to mean?  Dana wanted to scream her thoughts, but she wasn’t sure she could handle the answers right now.  Silently she allowed Alice to pull her into a hug and she just held on tight.  She didn’t know what was going to happen from here and she didn’t care as long as she was with Alice.

    (Present)

“What hurt the most about that night is what happened after we returned to my dorm for the night.  You probably don’t remember, but I will never forget.  You called Arkansas Jay and started crying while talking to him.  Before I could even figure out why you were crying, you told him you were falling in love with him.  Remembering that night still hurts.”

Remembering various little moments they shared made Dana think about their first Christmas together.

    (December 2001)

Dana and Alice sat on the Alice’s living room floor wrapping Christmas presents for their families.  It was the last weekend before finals and before Dana would leave to go to her parent’s house for the break.

    1. Sound like you are very busy 3 jobs,so people can’t even get one. Just don’t work so hard that you make yourself ill. That is from aold broad that is just about worked out. I love Dana she was sly and a wee bit gofy but so very sweet. Alice was lucky to have her love. thanks

    2. So thrilled you found time to update! I am very happy to hear you plan to keep going with your excellent stories. I know your loyal readers (including me) will be waiting whenever you have a chance to post. On to the chapter… What a roller coaster. So many ups and downs. It can be so painful and so wonderful to go back over memories of a life together. Love all the touches with the stuffed animals and that Dana had both and still treasured them. Thank you so much for finding the time to get us an update. You rock, cougar!!
