She had studied this piece for hours before agreeing its commission; she fully believed that to agree to show a collection of such fine Art she had to fully understand its meaning and significance and these Egyptian pieces were no different.
She had learnt that Nebwenenef, High priest of Amun, was dated rather precisely to the first fifteen years in the reign of Ramses II during 1290-24 B.C from the New Kingdom, Dynasty 19, this had been confirmed by the fact that it was recorded within the priest’s tomb in that he was identified by an oracle of the god Amun and installed in that high office in the first year of his king’s rule.
The bust of Nebwenenef is different from the standing figure of Sebek em hat in scale, quality of workmanship, and detail as it was made of black granite and was a little over 36cm in height. She had decided on taking this piece as the focus of the overall exhibit rather than Sebek em hat, due to, what she felt was the overall beauty of the piece.
Bette switched her monitor to the focus solely on the room off the gallery; she had no reason to be looking at the other rooms for the moment and she wanted to concentrate on the finishing touches to the room.
So far she had deep burgundy drapes hanging from the three main walls, the material she had chosen had a look of heavy velvet but was in actual fact a very light material that easily billowed if you walked past it, this gave the impression that the material was hanging loose rather than attached to a solid wall, interspersed with the material she had wide ribbons of a sandstone silk hanging loosely at intervals along the walls. The ceiling had burgundy voile creating a tent effect above the central platform; the lighting was coming from hidden areas behind the material or areas that were not visible when walking around the platform.
The main display for the bust of Nebwenenef, High priest of Amun was in the centre of the small room, Bette had a large, stepped staged area which rose to approximate waist height, it was loosely covered in the same material as the walls and hung, she thought, beautifully over each layer of the staging, it too billowed as you walked past it, giving the impression of the staging actually floating in the centre of the room. The entrance to the room would have draped fine see-through voile, deep burgundy, interspersed with golden thread; it was fixed at the top centre and tied back at the middle of each side, at the moment the voile entrance hung straight down to curtain the room from any prying eyes. She was extremely pleased with the work she had put into that room and was looking forward to finally getting the bust in place to see the finished effect.
