Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

When Stephanie moved Henry’s arm, he groaned in his sleep.  Sitting up and sliding out of bed, she replaced her body with one of the pillows–something for him to hold while he slept.  Stephanie tiptoed across the room and picked up her cell phone that she’d left on the kitchen counter.  She walked into the bathroom and sat on the toilet lid, searching the contacts for the number she had put in there, but had yet to call.  She found it, pressed the send button and waited.

    "Hello," a woman said cheerfully.

Stephanie whispered, "Is this Fran Archambault?"

    "Yeah, it is.  Who’s this?"

    "Hi.  My name’s Stephanie Kennard.  You’re. . .uh. . . you’re my sponsor.  I know I should have called. . ."

"Hi, Stephanie.  I’ve left a few messages for you, but I haven’t been able to reach you."

"Yeah, sorry.  I didn’t think I’d need you.  I-I the thing is, I don’t have an appointment to see my therapist for another couple of days and. . ."

    "What’s wrong?"

    Stephanie began to weep.  "I-I did something I shouldn’t have. . ."

    "Uh-huh.  What?"

"I just had sex with my ex-boyfriend."

    "Did he force you?"

She couldn’t stop crying.  She felt lost and confused.  "No.  There wasn’t even any pene-pene-penetration.  He was trying to please me.  It’s-it’s just that I know I’m not at that place yet for that sort of thing and I didn’t want to let him down, so I. . . shit.  I told him I was satisfied."

    "You faked it?"

Stephanie was ashamed even though she had heard stories during treatment that would make a person want to grab the nearest shovel and whack men and some women to death.  This wasn’t so bad in the big scheme of things, but she felt like she had taken several steps backward.  "Y-yes.  I’m not sure how we let it get to that point.  We were having a nice day and he was very kind, helping me get my apartment together, and he did all of these great things–put new locks on the door, and-and had someone fix my windows and. . ."

    "You wanted to thank him?"

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
