    Author Notes:

    Bette is ready to sing “Take this job and shove it”; Shane goes back to Oregon to deal with her family; Dana and Alice make final preparations; Dylan and Helena recall something from their past; Tina and Bette have dinner and dessert.

     

    “Alice?  Never.  The only time I talked to Alice was when I wanted to make sure something got back to you.”

     

    Tina laughed and then said, “So it was Kit.  Kit knows you better than all of us. . .”

     

    “Not better than you,” Bette said sincerely.

     

    “Sometimes I think she does.”

     

    Bette shook her head.  “No, not better than you, but when I couldn’t talk to you—when you left me. . .”  She corrected herself instantly.  “When I almost ruined what we had and then when you were sick, I relied on Kit.  I needed her.”

     

    “Right.  I know that.  You know that.  So why are you treating her like persona non grata in your life right now.”

     

    “I just told you.”

     

    “Look, Bette, you’ve already gotten over Stephanie’s bad behavior toward you and Helena’s."  Tina shook her head, and her brows came together to show that she was perplexed.  "Why are you doing this to Kit?”

     

    “Because she’s-she’s always acted like she loved me, but she resented me and at times hated me.  I don’t know what to make of it.”

     

    “Make nothing out of it, baby.  Big sisters hate their younger sisters.  It’s something we do.  I can’t tell you how many times I tried to kill Stephanie.  She’d steal my sweater and my mom and grandparents would hear me screaming, ‘when I catch you, I’m going to chop off your arms and you won’t be able to wear my stuff,’ or ‘I hate you.  I wish you were dead.’  Seriously, it was a weekly thing with us.  Kit was confessing something that happened when she was still growing up.  I just left her and she doesn’t even know what she’s done or said.  It’s not even in her mind that you’re angry about something from before she was even eighteen.  She’s clueless about what she did.”

     

    Bette looked at Tina and knew she was right.  She was stubborn and hurt, but it was ridiculous to keep this up.  "I’ll talk to her tomorrow or on the plane up to BC."

     

    "Good."

     

    They reached the front door of the cryobank and Bette held it open for Tina.

    5. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    8. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    14. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
