    Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

    * * * * *

    2:00am (Majorca Time)

    "Darling, we’re holding onto the apartment.  You don’t have to pack up everything," Helena said sleepily.

    Dylan seemed to have a lot of nervous energy, though Helena was wiped.  Helena was in bed, the linen wrapped carelessly around her body, revealing calf here, a bit of ass there, a hand here, and a shoulder there.  They had made love for hours off and on, but Dylan was up, wearing her thick, white robe and sitting at the small table in the bedroom.  She was making a list of things she wanted to take back to the States with her.

    "I think we should get a couple of bottles of nice wine for us and for your friends."

    This made Helena sit up.  There had been a question on her mind for weeks, but she didn’t want to sound judgmental.  "Dylan, do you have any friends?  You never talk about them."

    Recently, Dylan had been in communication with her parents in Napa after Helena convinced her that she had no reason to hide out; that no one was looking for her in connection with Danny’s disappearance.  Those phone calls back and forth were weekly, but not once had she known of or seen Dylan call, email, or write a friend.

    Dylan put her pen down, looked up at Helena, and smiled thoughtfully.  "No, no I don’t."  She rubbed her chin with her thumb as she spoke, "You know, with the way I was raised, you knew not to trust people.  My friends growing up were the other kids who lived on the commune.  When I finally left, I just sort of bummed around, worked at a shoe store to buy cigarettes and beer, hung out at bookstores, and for a while I spent time with some runaway kids who did dumpster diving.  That was kind of fun."

    "Dumpster diving."

    "Yeah, supermarkets throw out perfectly good food–untouched, still sealed usually, but it’s expired.  Several times a day, they take food out.  Usually, we’d find a place that felt sorry for us and we wouldn’t actually have to go into the dumpster.  They’d just hand it to us at the back door."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
