Shane and Molly: A Love Story Chapters 1-6

Shane turns around and falls into Molly’s arms. “Fvck,” she whispers, as her head falls to rest on Molly’s shoulder.

    “Go after her,” Molly urges.

Shane looks up with a questioning look, as if to say “You think?”

Molly nods. “Go.” She kisses Shane. Shane smiles and starts off after Jenny. As she reaches the end of the dance floor, she turns around and mouths to Molly, “Love you.” She spins back around and heads out the exit. Molly looks around and sees the framily seated in the VIP area and proceeds to walk the other way.

Jenny is sitting outside huffing and puffing away on a cigarette, her anger boiling over. Shane emerges from the doorway, looks around and her gaze lands on Jenny. Sorrow and regret flash across her eyes as she heads towards her. “Jenny…” she calls out.

Jenny hears Shane calling her, but will not turn around. A single tear streams down her face.

“Jenny, please,” Shane pleads as she comes to stand next to her.

Jenny turns her head the other direction, wipes her tear from her cheek, and then slowly turns to face Shane. “What do you want?”

“To apologize. To try to explain.”

“No explanation necessary Shane. You did what you always do. Except this time, my heart got caught in the crossfire.” Another tear slowly falls from Jenny’s eye as she stomps out her cigarette.

Shane kneels down in front of her and reaches out to wipe her tears away. “I’m so sorry,” Shane says sincerely. “I never meant to hurt you this way.” Shane pauses. Jenny’s anger seems to have ebbed for the moment, but in its place, Shane can see the hurt in Jenny’s eyes. She continues, “It kills me to see how much I’ve hurt you. Don’t you know how much you mean to me?”

Jenny shrugs her shoulders. “I thought I did.”

“Listen. Jen. I fucked up. Fucked up worse than I ever have. But you need to understand why it happened. Phyllis confronted me with some truths about myself that I didn’t want to hear. It hurt…badly. I love Mol–”

Jenny interrupts her, “Molly. I know.”

    “Yeah and–”

“Shane, I don’t want to hear it. You don’t need to tell me why you did it. I know already. I know you too well.”
