Shane and Molly: A Love Story Chapters 1-6

Shane half smiles. “Can you forgive me then?”

“You don’t understand,” Jenny says defeated.

    “Well, then, make me understand.”

Jenny averts her eyes from Shane’s pleading gaze to muster up the courage that she needs to say what came next. “I love you Shane.”

“I love you too Jenny,” Shane simply replies.

“No, not like that. I mean I love love you,” Jenny admits.

“Uhm…oh,” Shane stammers. Jenny’s face falls and Shane realizes she must say something. “Jenny–”

“I know you don’t feel the same. I saw it the minute I saw you on the dance floor with Molly. It’s okay.”

Shane is still stunned by what Jenny has just admitted. “When? When did your feelings for me change?”

“I think I’ve always loved you,” Jenny readily admits. Talking about it is helping her come to terms with the way things are. “But I think I really realized it when you were there for me after everything with my movie fell apart.”

“Jenny, you’re my very best friend and I’m flattered. I really am. But I—I….”

Jenny reaches up and places her hand on Shane’s cheek, “It’s okay. I know.”

Shane looks down at the ground then back up to Jenny. She smiles and leans in and kisses Jenny sweetly and innocently on the lips. “I do love you though Jenny. And I always will.” At this Jenny smiles. Shane comes to sit next to her and they embrace.

Molly is seated alone at the bar. She looks down at her watch. She’s keeping track of how long Shane has been gone. “It’s only been 15 minutes,” she tells herself, though it feels much longer. She takes a long sip of her drink, places it down on the bar and sighs. “I hope everything is going okay,” she says to herself.

Molly, lost in thought, does not notice Bette approaching her. “Hey, Molly.” She sits down next to her.

    “Hey,” Molly replies tersely.

    “So, you and Shane…?”

    “Yeah. No thanks to you”

“I don’t understand. What do you mean “no thanks to me?””

“We would never have broken up if it wasn’t for you. You told my mother that no one would ever want their daughter to be with Shane. My mother is the one that pushed Shane to end things with me.”
