Where You Go There You Are

A look of guilt crosses Tina’s face.  The feeling causes her to cast her eyes down to the floor not wishing to meet Bette’s eyes.  Bette’s comments bring Tina up short, she can feel her false bravado crumbling leaving her confidence waning.  No she has never told Angelica about Bette.  It’s the one conversation with her daughter that she has probably put off too long.  This guilt was what made Tina pause to consider Bette’s words.

In the face of Bette’s logic all Tina wanted to do was agree with her.  Trying to fortify the foundation of resistance she’d build during all these years apart, Tina struggles.  She can’t let it all dissolve with just one encounter.  What happened to the ideas she had at the beach just yesterday?  Tina forced herself to think, Bette hasn’t even mentioned she was happy to see her.  This isn’t the encounter of her dreams where Bette tracks her down so she can profess her undying love.  This is about Angelica and Bette seems to want a piece of her.

Bette recognized the expression crossing Tina’s face from their time together.  Knowing she has the advantage, she continues in an effort to reach neutral ground.  “Tina I will admit I have so many questions but I am aware enough to know that Angelica and her well being must come first.  It’s not going to help any of us if we start throwing around the issues of the past.  Let’s concentrate on the present.  Can we make a deal about that for now we have to put Angelica first?”

Bette’s amiable tone was in sharp difference to her earlier diatribe.  It was enough of a contrast to bring Tina’s eyes up and back to Bette’s face.  Looking into Bette’s eyes Tina sees the hurt she put there years ago by leaving.  Funny she never really thought about Bette’s hurt before.  It’s always been about her hurt and anger.  The realization caught Tina up short.  She found herself nodding her head without thinking any deeper.  “Deal” she whispered.

Seeing that maybe they had reached a truce, Bette just nods her head too.  Feeling that maybe they could work together for Angelica’s sake, Bette feels the air go out of all the arguments she wanted to voice.  It didn’t really matter anymore.  Angelica is the important issue right now.  Bringing up the past will only create hostilities that may prevent doing good here.

    1. This is awesome. Tina really needs to step back a bit. What’s with all the high and mighty crap. Bette is only trying to help. Maybe when the three of them are together. Hopefully Tina will let Bette in and let her help.

    2. Oh Boy!!!!Jwet, 2 in one day, can we go for the hat trick?? It must have taken all Bette had not to throw a bucket of water on Tina. I could go on a big rant right now but the breaks are warn out so I might never stop. Thats all about good writing. Thank you. Md

    3. Seems your Weary Tina might be depressed herself… then again, who wouldn’t be crabby when her child is lost? Of course Bette can help, she understands all about ‘crabby’ moments herself ;-)

    4. We could all be hard on Tina, she has never had any problem with Angie,so I would feel the sae way Tina does. that someone had tryed to brainwash her. The first ones would be LA and one of the gang., Its so hard on a parent to have a child do something out of the norm. I would be so afraid, and angry until I could get to the root of the problen. The love is still there between them, thanks so much for posting twofer. thanks

    5. The darkness of Angelica’s soul is scaring Tina. She thinks that it is her darker side (evil or whatever) while Angelica is more concerned with her skin color. Thanks for the post.

    6. Yes, Tina has put off far too long that certain conversation with Angie about who she is and her other mother. For the life of me I don’t think this is the right time for that particular conversation either. She needs to first find out why Angie came to LA and not with her friend and her family. Angie was led by that girl to do something she never would have on her own and Tina needs to know this first and foremost. Then she can talk to her about everything else. Then they need to talk about tina and Angie moving to CA and living there for the support she would get with Bette and the gang which would be so very good for Angie and Tina too. I know, I know they have a lot of talking to do first before any of those decisions are made. Great post. If Tina starts on another diatribe Bette should walk her out to the pool and shove her in for a little wake up call. That might get her attention to shut up and listen. Thaks for posting both chapters so quickly. PPS

    7. You’ve got me on the edge of my seat, rereading every line, Jwet. The roller coaster of emotions you describe keep me enthralled with every chapter. Tina is such an unpredictable, raw nerve that I can’t imagine what will happen once Angelica is told of her mother’s relationship with Bette. Thanks for the double dip… feel free to repeat as often as you like!

    8. that was a nice treat, 2 posts. thank you and thanks to the emailer who got you to post twice. another one would be even a bigger surprise treat? ha, ha. Thank you for sharing your story; needless to say, I enjoy your stories; it keeps me sane among the insanity of the insurance world! It’s nice to see Bette and Tina actually communicating. Will they work on their own relationship? Will we get to see more of Alice?
