Where You Go There You Are
Both Tina and Bette seem to take a mutually agreed upon time out. Sitting back down, Bette sat on the couch and Tina in the chair. They had physically changed places from before. The new positions seemed to bode well while they both leaned back to regroup. A comfortable silence developed between them. In some ways it was as if time had evaporated. Even the air around them seems defused of the static that was there only moments before.
It’s in this new calm that Bette speaks again, “Tina do you have any idea what’s going on in your daughter’s head right now? I don’t want to be an alarmist but if we don’t figure this out who’s to say she won’t take off again the moment you get her home?” Bette leaves off her real fear that if Angelica takes off again she could get herself into real trouble the second time around. Instead she pleads, “Let me help, please let me help.”
Tina believed in Bette’s sincerity. And of course she is right. There are so many unanswered questions about what’s going on in Angelica’s head right now. The biggest of which is why? Bette saying Angelica would come first, Tina believed her. These thoughts fueled Tina’s next comment. “Bette, Angelica is my entire life. I don’t think a day goes by where I’m not weighing what would be best for Angelica. Do I try to fit this business trip in now so I won’t have to come back later which will translate in less time away from Angelica? Or do I try to stay late today so I can leave early tomorrow to see her art show. It is always a trade off. I work hard to provide her a good life.”
Bette can hear that strain in Tina’s voice. The years of making compromises to provide for Angelica have taken their toll in ways that Tina wasn’t aware. It showed in a weariness that crossed her face and looks to have worn her down. For Bette its something she never would have wished on Tina. It was the role she wanted whether she felt adequate or not she wishes with all her heart she had had the chance. Bette’s heart hurt seeing and hearing the effect on Tina. In order not to dwell on the past Bette tries to move the conversation onto neutral ground of Angelica.

Wow, a twofer! Jesus, Tina, get a grip! It’s not ALL about you!
This is awesome. Tina really needs to step back a bit. What’s with all the high and mighty crap. Bette is only trying to help. Maybe when the three of them are together. Hopefully Tina will let Bette in and let her help.
Oh Boy!!!!Jwet, 2 in one day, can we go for the hat trick?? It must have taken all Bette had not to throw a bucket of water on Tina. I could go on a big rant right now but the breaks are warn out so I might never stop. Thats all about good writing. Thank you. Md
Seems your Weary Tina might be depressed herself… then again, who wouldn’t be crabby when her child is lost? Of course Bette can help, she understands all about ‘crabby’ moments herself ;-)
We could all be hard on Tina, she has never had any problem with Angie,so I would feel the sae way Tina does. that someone had tryed to brainwash her. The first ones would be LA and one of the gang., Its so hard on a parent to have a child do something out of the norm. I would be so afraid, and angry until I could get to the root of the problen. The love is still there between them, thanks so much for posting twofer. thanks
The darkness of Angelica’s soul is scaring Tina. She thinks that it is her darker side (evil or whatever) while Angelica is more concerned with her skin color. Thanks for the post.
Intriguing and complicated story. Totally enjoyable.
Yes, Tina has put off far too long that certain conversation with Angie about who she is and her other mother. For the life of me I don’t think this is the right time for that particular conversation either. She needs to first find out why Angie came to LA and not with her friend and her family. Angie was led by that girl to do something she never would have on her own and Tina needs to know this first and foremost. Then she can talk to her about everything else. Then they need to talk about tina and Angie moving to CA and living there for the support she would get with Bette and the gang which would be so very good for Angie and Tina too. I know, I know they have a lot of talking to do first before any of those decisions are made. Great post. If Tina starts on another diatribe Bette should walk her out to the pool and shove her in for a little wake up call. That might get her attention to shut up and listen. Thaks for posting both chapters so quickly. PPS
You’ve got me on the edge of my seat, rereading every line, Jwet. The roller coaster of emotions you describe keep me enthralled with every chapter. Tina is such an unpredictable, raw nerve that I can’t imagine what will happen once Angelica is told of her mother’s relationship with Bette. Thanks for the double dip… feel free to repeat as often as you like!
im off to the next one. love funnyone.a twofer jesus!!! thx
You are super and your story is superb.
That was good!
that was a nice treat, 2 posts. thank you and thanks to the emailer who got you to post twice. another one would be even a bigger surprise treat? ha, ha. Thank you for sharing your story; needless to say, I enjoy your stories; it keeps me sane among the insanity of the insurance world! It’s nice to see Bette and Tina actually communicating. Will they work on their own relationship? Will we get to see more of Alice?
