Where You Go There You Are

It takes Bette little while to respond to Tina’s description of the choices she has to make.  “Tina if I can, it seems you where surprised by Angelica running away, am I right?”

Tina leans forward with her elbows on her knees, she drops her head into her hands.  Cradling her head she moans, “Oh God.”

Bette sees this as a sign of defeat from Tina.  Leaning forward to hear Tina better, Bette just waits to see what she’s going to say.

“I was stunned.” Tina continues in a small voice.  “I don’t know why Bette.  It’s killing me.  I don’t know why.” Tina repeats.  “I have done nothing but ask myself that question over and over again.  Why did she do this?”

Bette grasp that Tina has probably beating herself up more than she should over the last few days.  In an effort to boast her, “Tina do you know your daughter thinks of you as goodness and light?”

This comment gets Tina to look up.  Bette leaning forward is physically close to Tina’s face.  She can smell the scent that is uniquely Tina, it still has a heady effect on Bette.  This distraction causes her to miss the surprised look on Tina’s face it’s not until Tina voices her surprise that Bette continues.

Pulling back a little, “Yeah this morning we were talking before we left for the Gallery.  She was telling me about her Mother who she described as ‘always positive, seeing good in everything’.  She used that description to contrast to herself.  It was obvious by the way she described you that she loves you a great deal.”  Bette adding her own opinion to the end.

This get’s Tina to smile, “Yes I have always felt my daughter’s love.  Which is way it just makes this whole thing seem so crazy.  But what do you mean contrast?”

Bette could see Tina’s mind working on trying to figure out what was going on in Angelica’s mind.  Bette felt better that they were now going down the right path.  “Well I’m not entirely sure.  She contrasted your goodness and light to her darkness.  I got the feeling she also wanted to add her anger.”

At the word dark Tina felt a queasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.  Looking away from Bette, she needs to stand to walk around a bit.  Her mind was full of images from Angelica’s painting.  The image of the vivid black steaks raining down to create darkness fills her mind.  Could Angie be falling into a depression?

“What Tina, what does this mean to you?” Bette asks when she sees the stress taking her over again.

By now Tina has her left hand rubbing her forehead.  At Bette’s question she looks to Bette.  “Did she tell you she won an award for her painting?”

Bette doesn’t get where Tina is going but goes along.  “Yes she did?”

Tina quickly continues, “Did you ever log on and take a look at it?”

Bette shakes her head, “No I haven’t had the chance.  Is this important?” But Bette can see by the way Tina’s acting that yes it’s important.  Getting up she heads towards her home office.  “Let’s take the time now.”

    1. This is awesome. Tina really needs to step back a bit. What’s with all the high and mighty crap. Bette is only trying to help. Maybe when the three of them are together. Hopefully Tina will let Bette in and let her help.

    2. Oh Boy!!!!Jwet, 2 in one day, can we go for the hat trick?? It must have taken all Bette had not to throw a bucket of water on Tina. I could go on a big rant right now but the breaks are warn out so I might never stop. Thats all about good writing. Thank you. Md

    3. Seems your Weary Tina might be depressed herself… then again, who wouldn’t be crabby when her child is lost? Of course Bette can help, she understands all about ‘crabby’ moments herself ;-)

    4. We could all be hard on Tina, she has never had any problem with Angie,so I would feel the sae way Tina does. that someone had tryed to brainwash her. The first ones would be LA and one of the gang., Its so hard on a parent to have a child do something out of the norm. I would be so afraid, and angry until I could get to the root of the problen. The love is still there between them, thanks so much for posting twofer. thanks

    5. The darkness of Angelica’s soul is scaring Tina. She thinks that it is her darker side (evil or whatever) while Angelica is more concerned with her skin color. Thanks for the post.

    6. Yes, Tina has put off far too long that certain conversation with Angie about who she is and her other mother. For the life of me I don’t think this is the right time for that particular conversation either. She needs to first find out why Angie came to LA and not with her friend and her family. Angie was led by that girl to do something she never would have on her own and Tina needs to know this first and foremost. Then she can talk to her about everything else. Then they need to talk about tina and Angie moving to CA and living there for the support she would get with Bette and the gang which would be so very good for Angie and Tina too. I know, I know they have a lot of talking to do first before any of those decisions are made. Great post. If Tina starts on another diatribe Bette should walk her out to the pool and shove her in for a little wake up call. That might get her attention to shut up and listen. Thaks for posting both chapters so quickly. PPS

    7. You’ve got me on the edge of my seat, rereading every line, Jwet. The roller coaster of emotions you describe keep me enthralled with every chapter. Tina is such an unpredictable, raw nerve that I can’t imagine what will happen once Angelica is told of her mother’s relationship with Bette. Thanks for the double dip… feel free to repeat as often as you like!

    8. that was a nice treat, 2 posts. thank you and thanks to the emailer who got you to post twice. another one would be even a bigger surprise treat? ha, ha. Thank you for sharing your story; needless to say, I enjoy your stories; it keeps me sane among the insanity of the insurance world! It’s nice to see Bette and Tina actually communicating. Will they work on their own relationship? Will we get to see more of Alice?
