You (Part the Forty-First)
Dana just stared at her in complete confusion for a few minutes, having no idea what was going on in that overworked imagination of Alice’s. In a flash of understanding, it hit her like a ton of bricks, and she hugged Alice to her even harder.
“No, baby, no. It was just a dream. It was just a bad dream, okay? I promise. I’m right here,” Dana said softly, wanting to say something else to prove her existence to Alice but not knowing what it could possibly be. So she just repeated herself a few times.
“You still smell like you,” Alice said in a whisper, seeming to take this as evidence that Dana was really there with her. “I don’t know, Dana,” she continued, sounding exhausted. “I just don’t know which part is the dream and which part is real.”
“All my stuff is here, though, sweetie…”
“Yeah. That doesn’t mean much when I wake up and you’re not beside me. It’s weird, you know? I mean, I wake up after something like that, and you’re not here. I’m not saying you have to be or anything, but it kinda reinforced what I knew in the dream. Or the reality, whatever. I just don’t know. I’m so fucked up, Dana. Hell, I might be telling all this to a ghost.”
“Unless I died in my sleep last night and taking a walk with Max was my initiation into the afterlife, I doubt it. Look, Al, I know it’s scary, but you just have to keep telling yourself what you told me, okay? Remember, how we’re supposed to have faith in each other? We’ll never get through this is without it.” Dana stopped and pulled Alice into her arms again. “It’s going to be all right, Alice. I promise.”
“I hate this,” Alice said after a few minutes, when her breathing had returned to normal.
“I hate it too, Al. But we’ll get through it.”
“How?” Alice whispered.
“Well, I think maybe you should start seeing somebody other than your usual therapist. Maybe somebody who specializes in post-traumatic stress or something,” Dana suggested gently.
“It’s not like I was traumatized, I’m just having bad dreams,” Alice protested.
“Yeah, but seeing what you saw was traumatic, Alice. It doesn’t make you a weak person or a crazy person to admit that, since your brain obviously remembers it that way,” Dana replied. “And we need to find a way to have you sleep through the night without dreaming, at least sometimes. If you’re having these dreams every time you sleep, that has to make it harder to tell what’s real and what isn’t. Maybe we can get you on some sort of sleeping pill that’ll make it so you won’t dream.”

Yay, I do believe I’m first! I totally always thought Erin Daniels had a Sheryl Crow-esque look to her, but I thought I was the only one. I loved this update, it was really adorable and so well written. And yeah, I shuddered at the thought of them listening to Mariah Carey.
great chapter!!:)
Alice’s lack of sense of reality is a bit unsettling, but understandable. But getting AlShaDane back together is way cool. Dana eating the rest of the pizza was funny after she told Alice not to buy all garbage at the grocery store, haha. The Ari storyline is growing on me, as it shows Dana’s strength and compassion. Yet I don’t get the backlash against Mariah. I for one felt that for once Dana should get the entertainment of her choice. Circles, twas a nice touch!
Alright, I’m a lurker and never posted because frankly I have too many website accounts and will lose track. But after reading the note at the bottom of this chapter I was forced to sign up just to beg you to somehow continue it.I check for updates pretty much every second day, which sounds creepy but it just shows how much I love this story. I refuse to watch L word after our beloved little ms fairbanks was taken from us and aside from watching season 1 and 2 over and over again this gives me something to actually look foward to. This is the only way danish love continues for me, and to have it taken away again would be toooo tragic. So if you need to end it, do so. But I’m praying you keep going because I don’t know where else to turn to for danish satisfaction.
I love your writing and really enjoy this story. There has never been a bad chapter (I should know — when you posted the latest, I went back and re-read the whole thing). I hope you continue.
Loved Loved Loved this update…Dana high classic…I read your note, I think there are alot places you can take this…but you are the writer with the vision…do what you feel is right…But I love this story…it’s an addiction what can I say!!Thank You…PPS!
ok im re-commenting b/c i have 3 things to say: 1. Yes, we do rule! (very cool timing on both our parts with the post)2. I look forward to your re-comment later. 3. I’m still shuddering over the thought of Mariah.
Lovely update, they were really sweet. The part with Ari was really heartbreaking and special. Great work. :)
I love this story more with each chapter
