Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

    Dylan laughed.

"But I lost track of that thought when she said in a heavy Turkish accent, ‘I see you from before, a time ago.’

    I said, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met.’

She dragged me to a secluded part of the hot springs and I readily followed.  She had me close my eyes and took my hands.  She rubbed them for a good while then her hands were on my temples.  She made small circles there until I thought my skin would become raw, but instead of being an irritation, it was remarkably soothing.  She whispered many times, for several minutes, ‘I am taking you to place.  I am taking you to place.’  Suddenly, the darkness of closed eyes disappeared and my eyes opened and I was there, seeing and experiencing everything I told you."

    "You’re kidding?" Dylan said.

"No.  Didn’t you feel it, too?"  Helena’s brow furrowed.

Dylan nodded and then asked, "Did we live happily ever after?"

"For a while.  We quickly collected as many flowers as we could and I gathered the few things that I cherished from my hut.  We left the forest and traveled far to the edge of the island where we lived and made love."

    Dylan smiled.

"Then one day you said the sea was calm.    you from our ‘lean-to’ on the beach and could see you for quite a distance because you were wearing your lucky, reddish-yellow shirt I had woven for you.  It was made from the dye of the first sunflowers we picked.  I turned away and just then the peaceful sea turned violent.  I heard such a noise and I looked back at the sea.  A gigantic wave that looked like a wall of movement came rushing toward me.  I scrambled up the dunes and ran, but I couldn’t outrun that wave.  Somehow I survived and once the water stilled and subsided, I searched for you and waited.  I waited."

    "Oh," Dylan said softly.

"I waited and after some time, a season perhaps, I walked back to the forest where my father and brother had once lived."  Helena sighed.  "When I opened my eyes in the natural hot spring pool, the old woman looked at me and said, ‘You pay me when you get out of pool.  You pay me.’

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
