Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

While she did that, Henry closed up his toolbox, then walked to the kitchen sink, poured Palmolive into his hands, and spent a full minute and a half washing them.  When he turned around, he saw Stephanie pulling one end of the bed sheet, then walking to the other side to pull on the other end to secure the fitted sheet on the bed.

    "Let me help."

"I’ve got it, Henry.  You’ve done so much for me.  I’m really grateful for someone like you in my life."

"You can stop thanking me for every little thing.  I’m happy to lend a hand."  Henry started laughing while Stephanie tried to smooth down the sheet.

    "What’s so funny?"

"I’m reminded of my mother’s cat.  She had that cat for about nineteen years and I swear, not once did that cat come to understand that there was nothing under the sheet accept air.  He’d chase it, wiggle his butt and go after it, and just pounce.  Sometimes, I’d stick my hand under the sheet and move it really fast to get him to chase it.  He was determined, ‘I’m gonna getcha and kill ya and leave you as a present for my human.  You’re dead.  Whatever you are under there, you’re dead.’  You act like you’re ready to go after that little pocket of air, too, Stephanie."

She felt playful and leapt on the sofa-sleeper.  "I gotcha," she said as she smashed her body onto the fabric that just wouldn’t remain flat.

Henry ran his hand under the sheet from his side of the bed, half-kneeling on it, and said, "Nope, I gotta way.  I’m faster and smarter than you, you ole cat."  He moved his hand around as if he were fleeing from the attacker.

Stephanie went after the hand, catching it in her grasp, but Henry moved away from her.  Four seconds later, they were both in bed laughing.  It happened so easily and without thought or promise.  They were kissing.  The former couple rolled around together on the bed, exchanging kisses and light caresses.

Henry seemed to realize what was happening first and pulled back.  "Hey, I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean to go there with you.  I understand your boundaries."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
