Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Alice stared at her mother.  She almost never mentioned her Dad.  It was like Alice had been a product of Immaculate Conception, though there was nothing immaculate about her mother when it came to sex.  "Really?"

    "I recognized that accent immediately."

"How do you know Sharon and Irwin?"

"We go way back.  A number of years," Sharon said.  "Did you girls rent a car?"

"There’s a shuttle that’ll take us to the hotel.  Come on," Dana said.

Sharon whispered to Dana, "God, Alice is an inquisitive one, isn’t she?"

    "She misses nothing."

    3:10pm

Henry sat at the table where Stephanie had been reading.  He was writing out a check for one of the two guys who stood over him.  The two men were dressed in white T-shirts that said "Pane in your Window," faded work jeans and scuffed and worn Timberland work boots.  "I want to thank you guys for coming out and getting this taken care of for us.

"No problem, sir.  It’s always good workin’ with you, Dr. McPherson."

These two guys had installed all of the windows at The West Los Angeles Center for Neuro-Trauma in the past and they did good work.  Henry stood, handed Jose Zepeda the check, and walked the two men to the door.  "Thanks so much," he said as he opened the door and let them out.

Henry closed and locked the door behind him.  He stood in the middle of the room with his hands on his hips.  "Well, you’ve got new locks on the front and back doors and that window fixed and sweeping locks on every single window in the place.  Nobody’s coming in now unless you invite them," Henry shouted to Stephanie who was in the back of the house where she and Brooke shared a utility room that housed the washer and dryer.

She walked out holding a basket of clean laundry.  "Thanks, Hen."  The moment seemed so domestic and she rather liked it.  "You’re a God-send."

"I don’t know about that, but you’re welcome."  He put all of his tools away while she removed the cushions from the sofa-sleeper and pulled the bar up and forward, dislodging the bed from its folded position.

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
