    Author Notes:

    Bette is ready to sing “Take this job and shove it”; Shane goes back to Oregon to deal with her family; Dana and Alice make final preparations; Dylan and Helena recall something from their past; Tina and Bette have dinner and dessert.

     

    "Why?  I can."

     

    "She’s your mother.  It’s your special day."

     

    "Yeah, and I want it to remain that way.  She’ll ruin it."

     

    "I wanted to surprise you."  Dana looked down at her shoe and then back up at Alice.  "She’s on that helicopter, Alice.  I thought it was the right thing to do."

     

    Alice looked up at the sky, watching the helicopter slow as it descended.  "Jesus.  I was so up front with you about this.   Man, Dana."  She crossed her arms over her breasts.  "Shit.  I can hear it now.  Her career.  Her boyfriends.  Name dropping.  Everybody will be listening to her stories when it’s our day.  It should be about us.  It should be about you and me this once and not my mother."

     

    "Well, my mom is going to talk to her.  She probably did already on the flight up.  I think she’ll be on her best behavior."  She bent to look into Alice’s downcast eyes.  "If your mom doesn’t act stupid, would it be okay for her to watch her daughter marry?"

     

    Dana had asked that so sweetly and with such affection that it made Alice smile.  "Yeah, I guess.  But if she does act stupid, would it be okay for me to find the nearest Canadian lumberjack to kick her butt back into the States?"

     

    Dana nodded.  "Uh-huh.  But I promise you, she’ll behave."  She looked at for several seconds.  "This is the only chance your mother will ever have to watch her daughter walk down the aisle.  She’s still your mother.  When we renew our vows twenty-five years from now, it won’t be the same.  This, honey, this is once-in-a-lifetime."

     

    "I love you," Alice reached for her hand and held it in hers, then pulled her closer, hugged her, and finally sealed her love with a long kiss.  "I love you," she said again, when they separated.

     

    "Love you more."

     

    "So totally not possible." 

     

    The two women stood near the landing area holding hands and then trying to hold themselves upright as the propeller circled over them causing a gigantic wind to kick up around them.  Finally, the helicopter came to a stop and the door opened.  Irwin exited first, then Howie.  The two men helped Sharon and Lenore out of the copter, and then an old man exited, too.

    5. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    8. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    14. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
