Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

"Oh, well, good game, Bette.  I thought I had you for a while there.  Quite a match we had going."

"Uh-huh."  Bette wiped her brow with the small hand towel she had brought in with her.

Phyllis looked at Bette whose back was turned to her.  She said, "Usually, people don’t win against me.  I’m not sure I like it."

Bette turned back, stared at Phyllis, her competitive nature still in the fore, and the double meaning dropped into the room like a dead racquet ball,   "I know I don’t like it."  She walked out.

    * * * * *

    3:10pm

Alice and Dana were waiting at the Helijet pad in Whistler.  "Look, that’s them," Dana said.

They looked up at the sky and saw the large helicopter cutting across the expanse of mountains, slowly making its descent.

"Al, before they get here, there’s something I need to tell you."

    "What, honey?"

    "Two things."

    "Okay."

"One, I looked at a few tuxes and just hated them.  I found a wedding gown.  Not as pretty as yours, but just right for me."

"I thought you had your heart set on being all butched up for the wedding."

"I did.  I mean, I thought I wanted that, but every time I was at the place, all I could do was look at the dress and imagine me wearing it walking down the aisle."

"Well, honey, it’s about both of us being happy.  Dress or tuxedo, whatever makes you happy.  I can’t wait to see you in it."

"Well, you’ll have to wait until I walk down the aisle."

"Deal.  What was the other thing?"

    "Uh. . . okay, don’t get mad."

"That’s never a good sign."  Alice stared at her.  "Do I need to cancel that lesbian New Age minister we hired to conduct the ceremony?  I mean, are you about to tell me something that will scare the shit out of me?  Cause I can handle it, but I wish you’d had told me sooner whatever it is."

Dana turned Alice to face her, grabbed her shoulders, and stared at her.  "Be quiet.  I know you said having your mom at our wedding wasn’t a good idea, but I felt really bad about it.  I mean, I just can’t get married and not invite your mom."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
