Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Stephanie looked at the mother and daughter.  “I wonder if I’ll ever have kids,” she mused aloud.  “I never wanted one before, but now, I’m not. . . Maybe.”

“I think if I hadn’t had one, I would have been fine going through life.  I didn’t have that feeling that a lot of women including Bette have—this sense of being incomplete.  But now that I’ve had this sweet girl something in me has changed.  I can’t imagine going through life without a baby.  I just want that whole experience.  Bette’s agreed to another baby, but I think honestly, if Angie turned out to be an only child Bette wouldn’t have a problem with that.”

“But aren’t you meeting her at the cryobank this afternoon?  She must want this as much as you.”

Tina gently rubbed the back of Angelica’s head while her daughter sucked.  “She did at one time, but I think . . .  when I got sick . . . . “  She didn’t want to present Bette as vulnerable to Stephanie.  Who knew if Stephanie would someday use that information against her?  She’d done it once–telling a court of law about every conversation and email that Tina had communicated with her regarding Bette’s personality and their relationship.  “She just doesn’t think it’s worth it.”

“Why doesn’t Bette carry the baby?  I mean, why are you the baby maker?  That’s one good thing about being in a same-sex relationship.  If Peter could carry the baby, I might be willing to do it.”  Stephanie laughed.

“Bette had an accident when she was at Yale.  She took a bad spill off a horse during an equestrian event and did some damage to her back.  I think pregnancy might be difficult for her.”

“Oh, I didn’t know,” she said sadly.

“It’s not a big deal.  She probably could, but it could be dangerous.”

    Stephanie nodded.

It was practically Noon, so it shouldn’t have been a big deal.  Gabe McCutcheon drinking a Corona at Noon wasn’t so bad except that he had claimed to be clean and sober when he first started talking to Shane again.  Each time they had been together he had been drinking beer.  And since it was almost Noon, it wasn’t the worst thing that he had popped one open.  The bad thing was that this was the third beer this morning and the second full one since Shane had arrived.

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
