Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Felt the ripple in the center

    Of your heart. . .

    I stayed there for hours,

Until I landed on your soul. . .

    Finally I embraced your sound.

    You let me in.

Bette leaned in, kissed Tina.  "I remember it.  God, Tee, I remember you handing me that poem on that really nice handmade paper."

"The night of that dinner I discovered you–fluid, flowing, brilliant, beautiful, a promise, a fantasy, my reality.  I knew that night and as much as I wanted to deny it, I couldn’t.  I couldn’t hide from it."

Bette wrapped her arms around Tina’s shoulders, kissed her, pulled Tina closer. "It was the first poem I’d ever gotten as an adult.  This kid who lived down the street from us gave me this Roses are Red poem once.  I-I-I cherish your poem.  Still."  They kissed again and when they broke away, Bette hit play on the cd player.  "Can I have this dance?"

Bette backed away from Tina, grinned at her.  It was that smile so easily recognized after all of these years.  Bette was saying to her, ‘it’s time.  I’m going to make love to you, I’m going to please you and treat you with tenderness.’  Again, Bette thought she’d control their lovemaking.  She pulled Tina into her arms, one arm rested on Tina’s waist while the other cupped her shoulder.  On the cd, the first chords were struck on the piano, then the next measure moved the chords an octave, then the melody came in and they began to dance close while the slides continued to click to reveal Tina’s poem word by word, then line by line.

“The Genius?” Tina whispered.  It was what they called Ray Charles after his Genius Loves Company cd was released, but the song they were listening to now was from an older cd.

I’ve been so many places in my life and time
I’ve sung a lot of songs, I’ve made some bad RHYMES
I’ve acted out my life in stages
    With ten thousand people watching
But we’re alone now and I’m singin’ this song to you

Tina’s right arm went around Bette’s shoulders and her fingers caressed the back of Bette’s neck.  Bette joined Ray Charles and sang to Tina:

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
