Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

The slides automatically changed and each slide presented a new angle of the painting.

Bette watched the images and laughed.  "You were busy today."

"Uh-huh," she said as more of the painting came into view until finally its entire image covered the closet door.

The next slide showed the letter ‘T,’ followed by ‘he" to make up the word ‘the’ over the slide.

Bette wondered how long Tina had been working on this.  "What’s that?"

"Watch."  The next slide appeared and it said, ‘pai’.  "Remember you had that dinner for Giselle.  It was incredible."

Bette nodded.  "It was hard to say who was the guest of honor–Giselle or you.  I had told you the night before that I-that I was in love with you and didn’t want to mess up your life, but had to get it off my chest."

"I remember."  She lightly touched Bette’s arm as another word appeared on the closet door while in the background, the Murphy painting acted as back.  "The night of the dinner, while you mingled, I stared at this painting."

"Yeah, you had just disappeared and I kept looking around for you, but didn’t see you," Bette said as she watched more letters cross the closet door.

"You had told me it was one of your favorites and I wanted to understand it and understand you."  They both watched the door as the image of A Pacific Wave/An Ocean Sky changed, bringing movement to the piece that already denoted motion and flow.  "I’d always loved art, but not like you.  I didn’t get it like you did.  You did make me love it again, though.  I’d forgotten how much until you.  So I analyzed it, hoping to see what made you tick, what you found pleasing. . ."

"You."  Bette’s eyes had changed completely.  They were dark, unfocused, heated, and captivating.

"I was off in a corner with that painting.  I remember my mind drifted from it to how you had told me that you loved me.  Of course, I was still with Eric.  I didn’t know how to leave him, but I knew I had fallen in love with you, too.  I hadn’t said it yet, but I felt it.  I was trying to convince myself that it was a mistake to pursue anything with you.  I wasn’t gay; it didn’t make sense."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
