    Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

    Outside, Shane held her hand over Carmen’s mouth.  "Be quiet.  Bette and Tina are awake."  Shane pointed to the bedroom that was fully illuminated by the candles.  Bette was naked.  "If we make any noise we’ll never be able to use the pool.  I think they’re going to bed.  We’ll wait a few minutes until Bette’s away from the window and then make a run for it.  All right?"

    Carmen muttered beneath Shane’s hand.

    "All right?" Shane asked again.

    Carmen grabbed Shane’s forearm, pulled it down and whispered, "Yes, already."

    * * * * *

    "Hey."

    Bette turned to look at Tina and smiled.  The night was magical and she knew it would continue.  Tina had tied her hair back in a loose ponytail and she looked inviting in the candles’ glow.  "Hi.  It’s quiet tonight except for that."  Her eyes traveled up, denoting the rain.  "Isn’t it nice?"

    "Very," Tina said.

    Bette walked to the small CD system that they had purchased from The Sharper Image.  When they had arrived home, she had immediately gone to find the cd and put it in the system. It had been running through her mind all the way to the house.

    "Wait, Bette.  I want to say . . . before. . ."  Tina got in bed and crawled across.  Bette grinned, thinking Tina was making a seductive approach to the other side of the room to join her at the window, but Tina stopped midpoint in the bed.  "All day, I was thinking about your job and then your old job. . . no . . . your career."  Tina apparently was changing the subject.  "Your passion at the gallery.  All day, I was thinking that’s what you needed to do.  You don’t have the kind of joy you used to have after a day’s work.  You were electric then."

    Bette nodded.  "Yeah.  I do miss that kind of excitement in my life.  I have meetings and listen to bitch sessions Monday through Friday.  Frankly, it’s draining.  I guess tonight, you sort of cemented my decision in my own head.  I’m going to give my notice."

    "That’s what I wanted to hear."  Tina crawled across the bed, stood up, reached out, tightening her hand around Bette’s arm just above her wrist, and pulled her toward her.  Tina kissed her–a sweet, friendly kiss."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
