Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

"I had a feeling you were going to tell me to get lost that night.  I-I was dreading the end of the evening, so I threw myself into the dinner and reception.  I just focused on that and tried not to think about losing you."

"I sat there. . ."  Tina stared at the slides as big, white letters became word after word against the dark blue of the painting.  ". . .And just stared at it.  When I first saw it, it was just clouds and ocean, but I sat with it and something inside me changed.  It was like a Zen moment.  I kinda became one with it and suddenly I saw you in it.  Water, waves, ocean, clouds, sky, and you."

Bette’s hand gently rolled over side of Tina’s body, sliding over the inward curve of her waist, the womanliness of her hips, back up to her smooth back.  Bette stared at the closet door as the next slide clicked over and then the next.  She saw the words appearing faster and now she recognized it.  "It’s your poem."

"Yeah, it is."  Tina turned to Bette and smiled.

"You gave it to me that next day.  We were talking about the evening and you said, ‘hey I wrote a poem about one of those paintings.   You said you hadn’t written poetry in a long time, but felt inspired.”

Tina nodded.  "I was embarrassed," Tina confessed.

Bette’s gaze turned from the closet door.  “You shouldn’t have been.”  She didn’t need to look at the words or the painting.  She remembered both.  She turned to face Tina, held her hands in hers and began to recite the poem:

    The painting I saw yesterday

Reminded me of you. . .

It was water in the clearest

    Form of blue;

Tina took over, recalling the heartfelt words as they had been written eight years ago.

Above were clouds of some color

    White . . .

    I could hear no sound.

    I could see your face

    With no line or form,

But what I saw was the

    Purest form of YOU.

    I placed my forefinger

    On the picture,

Glided across your waves. . .

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
