Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

“Perhaps, I needed destiny to catch up with me or find me.”

“Helena, that’s rather esoteric and cryptic.  What in heavens’ name do you mean?”

“Dylan.  I’ve waited for Dylan and I knew it the day I laid eyes on her.  I was finished the moment I saw her.”

    “Finished?  Finished with what, Helena?”

“Finished searching.”  Helena smiled just thinking of her lover.

“What do you know of this woman?  Have you really looked into this. . . Dylan’s character?  I realize that she’s getting a Shaolin paycheck, but there’s been no output and that’s not how we do business.  Helena.  Helena.  You’re being suckered again, my darling.”

The hairs on the back of Helena’s neck stood up.  “Don’t do anything, Mother.  I know all I need to about her.  Don’t you go dredging up information about her past.  I know about her past and all of it makes her who she is and that’s the woman I love.  I’m telling you to not do it.”  Helena pointed into the mouthpiece of her mobile phone.

Like daughter, like mother–Peggy pointed at her landline phone where Helena’s voice had come out of the speaker.   “Then there is something?”  “There’s more than that business with that poor man who was washed out to sea, her ex-boyfriend?”

    “Mother, leave it alone.”

“You’re a Peabody.  If you’re getting into something that you can’t handle, I don’t want to have to jump in and figure it out later; make it disappear, pay people off.”

    “Stop it.”

“You’re too old for me to roam around the world cleaning up the wastes of your poor judgment.”

“Mother,” Helena shouted into the phone.   She spoke fast-paced, getting her words out quickly and with authority.  She knew what she wanted to say.  "I accepted you taking the Foundation away from me.  I took that with my chin held high and carried on.  I accepted you freezing me out of accounts that I know are rightfully mine even though your name is listed as the primary account holder.  I’ve gone on with my life, yeah.  I haven’t asked you for anything in these months.  I’ve lived my life and for the first time, I’m happy.  I’m over-the-moon happy.”

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
