Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B
I was concerned I wouldn’t have enough flour for bread if we were having a visitor, so about three days later I went about climbing some of the smaller trees and chopping down branches and with some of the younger trees, chopping down the tree entirely to get to that center. I was alone and in a tree whistling a song I had made up. Well, it was a song I had heard the birds sing. I could sound just like them after years of living among them. I heard a snap of twigs beneath me and I looked down and saw another person. There were no other people who lived out there, so I couldn’t understand how this could be. Perhaps, my father and brother were back with the man. My vantage point didn’t allow the best view, so I kept staring between the tree’s branches, maneuvering about on the tree, trying to get this person in sight clearly. I was a bit careless, lost my balance, and took quite a tumble down the tree, landing on the forest’s floor, and frightening the person who had assumed it had been a rather loud and lively bird singing above.
“Was it me? Was I this . . . ?”
“I can’t say if it was a man or a woman or even the race. It was always more a feeling than a clear and concrete image. However, knowing you now, I know for certain, it was you. You have that identical spirit, that same unique energy.”
Dylan laughed.
“’You scared me. Who are you? What were you doing up there?’
‘Me? I live here. My home is over there. Who are you?’ I demanded.
You took a step back, stood in a pose that was close to one a wild animal might take before lunging, which frightened me. ‘I’m collecting samples,’ you explained.
‘Samples of what?’
You looked, in my mind, no different than I. You weren’t an interloper from far away, from another land studying the people on the island or the geography of my land. You were my kind, but you were a stranger nonetheless.
‘I make dyes. I was out here looking for plants and flowers to make new colors to sell to people. I’d never been around here and thought I might find something new.’

‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!
I am awed. Incredible plotting, great pacing, wonderful imagery. And so hot. Thanks so much for this incredible chapter.

OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…
Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)
OMG!!!!!! I miss this story! Pretty please continue!
Wow I just finished reading. I agree with everyone. If you can please continue this.
Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.
What can I Say – wow – great update thank you so much.
A fan fiction timeline: In the beginning: Bring it all on. … After Portia: It’s done been broughten.
Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.
I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS
loved it!!!! pps
I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
You have to finish this! I read this entire series in 6 weeks, and can’t wait to see what happens in the end. So much better than the show.
