Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Stephanie shook her head.  "Museum putty?  I don’t understand y’all out here at all.  You guys talk in a secret code."

He put his arms up in resignation and shook his head.  "Hey, we’re just trying to survive."

    Stephanie nodded.  That, she understood.

    "I’ll be right back."

A few minutes later, Henry was on the floor, sitting cross-legged in front of the opened door.  He had his power screwdriver, other tools, and an opened Schlage deadbolt lock beside him.  He took a bite of the pizza that was on a paper plate beside him and then picked up the screwdriver.  Putting down the tool, he grabbed the cold, green-bottled, Heinekin.  "I never get to have a beer this early.  Tastes really good.  Beer tastes different in the middle of the day then it does at night," he said to Stephanie who was seated at the table eating and reading one of her texts from the treatment center.  Henry went back to work, unscrewing the cheap lock that was on the door in order to replace it.

Stephanie watched him.  At that moment, he reminded her of Mikey, Henry’s son.  Henry’s tongue stuck out of the corner of his mouth as he bore down on the screwdriver and pushed the button for it to turn.  He was focused on his work and he seemed so true blue.  She trusted him more than she did the cop across the hall.  Henry was a man of his word.  He didn’t argue with her unless pushed against the wall and he had no choice; he tried to make her happy; and in spite of his own obligations, he was over at her home trying to guarantee her safety.

She bit into the wild mushroom pizza.  In Charlotte, she always ate the deluxe pizza or pepperoni pizza from Domino’s or Pizza Hut or even Little Caesar’s.  Those were Peter’s favorites as well as his teammates.  As long as there were enough pizzas for everyone, with loads of meat, the men she knew in Charlotte were happy.  Stephanie never ate more than half a slice, so she hadn’t cared one way or the other.  This pizza was delicious.  There were, she thought as she picked over the toppings, four different mushrooms on it and instead of the formula red tomato sauce that came from a large plastic bag or can, this one had an olive pesto on the organic whole wheat crust.  Each bite was scrumptious, yet healthy.  Peter would have been disgusted by this pizza and would have complained all day about having been forced to try to get it down.  Tina was right, maybe Henry was more her type.  But Peter was kind, too and he was ‘saved.’  "Hen?  I never asked you, what religion are you?"

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
