    Author Notes:

    Bette is ready to sing “Take this job and shove it”; Shane goes back to Oregon to deal with her family; Dana and Alice make final preparations; Dylan and Helena recall something from their past; Tina and Bette have dinner and dessert.

     

    “We’ll go to the school now, I guess.”  Gabe knew that things were moving fast, but he had no desire to slow them down.  All he could think was that soon, he’d be free of Carla and his kid would be taken care of by his other kid, and he’d have cash in his pocket.  It was a sweet deal and he didn’t seem like an asshole.  At least in his eyes, he wasn’t.  “You can take him back with you.”

     

    “Well, actually, I have this wedding to go to in BC.  I was thinking of flying down here on my way back.  Maybe you’ll know if you got Carla into a treatment program.”

     

    “Yeah, where’s the wedding.”

     

    “In this place called Whistler.  A couple of friends of mine.  They’re rented rooms for us and planned all of these events.  It sounds like fun.  And it’s not so far from Oregon.  I’ll just pop in and pick Shay up in a few days.”

     

    “I could always go up there.  I haven’t been up to BC in a coupla years.  Yeah, I’ll bring him up there and you can take him back.”  He took a drag from his cigarette.  “You must be makin’ major money to fly up here, fly to Canada, fly back down, then back to LA.  You must be rollin’ in it.”

     

    “I wish.”

     

    He turned and appraised her, not quite believing her repeated pronouncement of poverty.

     

    “I guess we should go over to Shay’s school.  Since we’re both here, we can get this done.”

     

    “All right.”  Shane exhaled softly.  What a relief.  Things were going just as planned. 

     

    They walked for a minute or two, then Gabriel said, "But we need to what. . .?"  He sucked in nicotine from the cigarette, holding it in his lungs as he said, "Stop at your bank to get the money first, huh?"

     

    "Yeah, let’s go?"  Shane drew on her cigarette, too.  God, this man, she thought.

     

    * * * * *

    The ball moved quickly from the wall and into play over and over.  Phyllis was focused and serene, while Bette was equally in concentration, but so obviously agitated.  The ball whizzed by Bette and she missed it.  “Shit,” she shouted.  She bent over and put her hands just above her knees while she caught her breath and the ball bounced randomly on the court until it slowed to a roll.

    5. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    8. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    14. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
