Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

"I want to be normal."  Stephanie felt like she had been close to normalcy.  Lately, after treatment, because of her therapy sessions and the readings she was doing, she was finding the person she had once been.  The person she once was some fifteen or more years ago was close again.  That person was there and closer to the surface but still, she wasn’t there yet.

"Did that make you feel normal?"

"No, it made me feel abnormal, inept."  She began to cry again.  "Frigid," she whispered the word.  It wasn’t one she wanted to say, but she believed that was what she was and had been for years.

"I know your therapist pretty well.  You’re still in the early stages, but just be honest with her about your concerns.  You’ll move into that discussion anyway.  It’s part of the treatment.    The treatment center does discourage sexual activity during the beginning of your healing education.  There’s a reason for that.  You have to understand yourself before you give yourself to others.  You’re not frigid.  You told me you were interested and showed him your interest.  You didn’t have a disinterest in sex.  Not every encounter ends in a climax."  Fran glanced at the boardwalk.  "Look at all of these women on their bikes and blades and walking around right now.  Do you think you’re the only one who isn’t having an orgasm?  If this is the guy you really want to be with. . ."

"I think he is," Stephanie said.  She was feeling sure about that, but she dreaded hurting Peter again.  The idea of telling Peter that she had changed her mind again made her nauseous.

"Then, he’ll work with you; he’ll support you.  You said he’s a medical doctor?"

"Uh-huh, a neurologist, brain disorders are his specialty."

Fran smiled, but didn’t say anything.  She knew where Stephanie’s head would take that comment.

Stephanie looked down, shook her head.  "Funny, huh?  I’m the biggest brain disorder around."

"Stop belittling yourself.  That’s not funny–not at all.  This degradation and self-ridicule is not doing you any good.  Something really bad happened to you and you’ve spent all of your adult life hiding from it, masking it, and now you’re dealing with it.  Good for you.  And how lucky you are to find someone you described as a good man, who is empathetic and loving and how fortunate to find a good man who understands the inner workings of the brain when you’re confused.  God put. . . what’s his name?  Henry?"

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
