Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

"That’s for you.  Marcus was a giant of a man and Angelica wasn’t easy for you.  I think medium build is best." Bette was firm.

"And the donor has to be an artist, an art major. . ."

"Architecture is fine.  I’d even go with a literature major.  Someone with the right aesthetic sensibilities, even a filmmaker.  This is LA.  I’d go with a filmmaker."

"Bette, we’re not going to find anyone.  We don’t have one name.  We don’t have a list of possibilities and we’ve been through page after page after page.  I give up."

"No, we’ll find someone.  Maybe we need to widen our search."

"That’s what I told you.  Look, this guy is Saudi Arabian."  She pointed to the donor’s information.  "He’s a liberal arts major."

"No," Bette answered quickly.  "What I meant is that we could fly up to San Francisco or down to San Diego to look at their clinics.  Maybe the right donor just isn’t here in LA."

Tina bit her bottom lip and twisted her mouth as she did so.

"What are you thinking?" Bette asked.  She knew Tina had an idea.

"I’m thinking about the right donor."

Bette was thinking about Mo, too.  She would have loved to have been able to say, ‘let’s use my half-brother, but she couldn’t.  Her mind kept pulling her back to her pre-pubescent and teen years when her parents’ marriage was filled with anger and acrimony.  Mo’s mother was to blame and she couldn’t let it go.  Her parents loved each other, but their marriage had been ruined by that.  She couldn’t let it go.  "What about the right donor?"

"Oh, I don’t know.  We’ll figure out someone.  I just don’t think it’ll be here."

"That’s why I suggested going to another city.  We can probably do it online," Bette said.  If she could avoid the Mo discussion, she’d prefer it.

Tina nodded absently.  How was she going to change Bette’s mind about the perfect donor who was just a phone call away?

Bette took the mouse from Tina and scrolled down.  "Him?"  She pointed.

    "English/Swedish.  No."

Bette leaned back, sighed.  "Forget it.  Just. . .  This is ridiculous.  This shouldn’t be that hard."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
