Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

    Stephanie nodded.

"God put Henry in your path for a reason.  Let God guide you one day at a time and don’t analyze God’s course of action for you.  Just let things happen.  Talk to your therapist.  She wouldn’t mind you giving her a call today if you need to.  She wants to help.  We all want to help."

Stephanie looked out at the water.  The sun was bright still though it was past the halfway point in the sky and starting its descent into the water.  She stared out–vast, but bright–one day slowly ending.

    5:15pm

Bette and Tina were seated in a small room with two chairs, a desk, and a computer.  They were going through the database of sperm donors.

"Where the fuck are the African-Americans?  I mean, don’t college educated Black men need money for school?  Don’t Black painters and sculptors need money for their supplies?  Why aren’t they donating; getting money for their glorious semen?"

"Maybe the cryobank doesn’t get the request that often."

"Figures," Bette said in a bitter voice.

"What about this one?" Tina asked, pointing at the screen.

"He’s type B positive.  I-I really think that we have to be definite on the blood type requirement.  If anything is wrong with the baby, God forbid, since this is anonymous.  One of us should be able to donate blood and not have to rely on outsiders."

"So O positive or A positive?"

    "Right."

    They kept looking.

"Here."  Bette pointed.  "What about him?"

    "His interests are medicine."

    "Oh."  Bette was getting depressed.

"Well, that would be okay to have our son or daughter excel in the sciences," Tina said.  She thought they had too many unbending requirements.  "It wouldn’t hurt to have some flexibility."

"With our child, Tee?  I think we should find exactly the person we want."

"Baby, I don’t think we’re going to find it here," Tina said sadly.

"We will.  We just have to keep looking."

Tina glanced down at the paper where she had written all of their requirements.  "We’re not.  African-American, no donor under five feet, ten inches tall, medium build. . ."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
