    Author Notes:

    Bette is ready to sing “Take this job and shove it”; Shane goes back to Oregon to deal with her family; Dana and Alice make final preparations; Dylan and Helena recall something from their past; Tina and Bette have dinner and dessert.

     

    "Kind of like Kit, huh?"

     

    Bette nodded and wiped away the dampness under one eye.  "I never want Angie to experience that."

     

    "We’re good, Bette.  We’re solid."

     

    Bette looked at Tina, searched her eyes for the certainty she longed for, and saw it.

     

     

    * * * * *

     

    6:20pm

     

    Dana, Dana’s mother, father, and brother, along with Alice and Lenore were having drinks at the bar at the hotel. 

     

    "Where’s your parents’ friend, Isador?"

     

    "Oh, he’s napping.  He’ll be down for dinner," Sharon said.  It seemed like Alice was obsessed with this man.  It was her third or fourth question about him.

     

    "Dana, you haven’t filled us in about your honeymoon.  Where are you going?"

     

    Dana sipped her club soda.  She’d had too much to drink last night and she’d probably have too much again at the wedding reception.  For now, she’d keep her head about her.

     

    "Well, Dad, I know you really have another question you’re dying to ask, so I’m going to answer both for you."

     

    "What’s that?" Irwin said.

     

    "Alice, you know is a freelance writer.  She’s got a lot of contacts in the publishing business and she’s going to take this next year to write a book based on our honeymoon.

     

    "Ooh, lesbian porn," Howie said and laughed.  “Girly erotica.”

     

    “Like you’ve ever watched or read that,” Dana whispered as an aside.

     

    Howie smirked and said, “Only reading what you had hidden under your mattress when you were living at home.”

     

    “Shut up, Howie,” Dana whined.

     

    Sharon glared at him, then turned back to Dana.  "I don’t understand."

     

    "Alice is going to write a travel book on the places we’re visiting this year.  Right now, Mom, Dad, I’m ranked fairly high and I’m scheduled to play a bunch of tournaments on the WTA tour.  I’m already set to play in Dubai the third week of February and then Qatar at the end of that month."

     

    "Really?"

     

    "Uh-huh.  Last year Maria Sharapova took the Qatar Total Open and Lindsay won in Dubai.  I feel good about it; this might be my year."  Dana was happy–happy about the goals she’d set for her career and happy about the new life she was getting ready to embark on with Alice.

I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    8. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    14. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
