Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Alice nodded while she sipped an Appletini.  "We’ve got the whole schedule worked out as long as Dana stays strong and. . ." She leaned over, kissed her, and squeezed her bicep.  "I know she will, the entire year is spoken for.  We’ll be in California a few times, but mostly, we’ll be all over the world and I can write about the experience from a traveler’s point of view.  I’m going to pepper my articles with insights from a tennis pro’s perspective, though.  It’ll be mine, but Dana’s going to really be a participant in it, too."

"Wow," Irwin said.  "And you’ve sold the idea to a publisher?"

Alice fibbed.  She had only discussed it with a couple of people and they thought it was a terrific concept.  "Uh. . . yeah.  We’ll start with excerpts in the magazines and move on from there.  We’ll see where it all lands."

"That’s very impressive, Alice," Sharon said.  More and more she saw that Dana had made a good choice with Alice.  Sharon had had her doubts, but Alice had proven time and time again that she was dedicated to Dana in every way.  She also noticed the way that Alice looked at her daughter—she watched her hands, looked into her eyes when Dana was speaking, paid attention to what Dana had to say, never interrupted her, and most of all, she made Dana smile and laugh.  That’s what it took to make a successful marriage.  She knew they’d make it.

"Thanks.  So after Qatar we take a break to see the Pyramids and Sphinx."

"You know they’re going to have a hard time with you girls if you aren’t discreet."

"We know that Dad.  We know to be careful."

"So after our brief jaunt to Egypt, we go to. . ."  Alice paused to think.  "We’re in Florida for the Bausch and Lomb Championships and I’ll really want to check out Disneyworld and Epcot, right Dane?”

    “Sure, honey.  That sounds great.”

“Then we’ll fly to South Carolina for the uh. . . the uh. . . don’t tell me.  The uh, Family Circle Cup.  Dana’s going to be playing on clay for that one.”  She grinned, patting herself on the back for recalling that detail.

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
