Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B
Earlier, Tina had pleaded with the maitre d’ to squeeze them in somehow and had called several times to find out about a reservation cancellation. Tina had gotten lucky so now, here they were.
Bette’s eyes took in the place like a child seeing her first snowfall or a tourist’s initial viewing of some great work of art. Il Cielo was made to look like a Tuscan country restaurant. The owner had brought the outdoors in and the design was cozy, rustic, and sensual.
It was a cool night with the threat of rain hanging in the air, but they wanted the whole Il Cielo experience and the heat lamps would keep them warm enough. When they had been seated, the tall Italian waiter who looked more like a MAW—Model/ Actor/ Whatever, had placed them across from each other, but Bette told him that she wanted to sit beside Tina. The waiter moved the place setting and scurried away to bring them fresh bread.
"This-this is so beautiful, baby," Bette said in awe.
"I know. It’s like a dream, isn’t it?"
They looked at the twinkling lights, the small pots of rosemary, the colorful, climbing hydrangea, and the deep lush foliage that surrounded the perimeter to create gorgeous greenscapes throughout the setting.
"Tina, I’m so glad you did this. It’s just so. . ." Bette was at a loss for words.
The sommelier arrived at the table and ran down some of the best wines offered at Il Cielo. Bette listened closely to his suggestions, but had already decided on the wine she’d have for the evening. She said, "I’ll have a glass of the Famiglia Anselma Barolo 2000, please." She chose a wine that had strong berry flavors, but was also quite floral in taste with a nose that included rose. "And. . . " She looked at Tina.
"Pelligrino for me." Tina wasn’t drinking. She was still breastfeeding and though it was all right to have one drink, she chose not to. She had other reasons, too.
A few minutes later, the sommelier reappeared with the wine and a man named Paolo, introduced as their waiter, poured Tina a glass of Pelligrino. Paolo took their first course order and quietly slipped away. Tina and Bette chose the antipasto for two consisting of a large platter of salami, prosciutto, bruschetta al pesto, grilled eggplant, roasted bell peppers, sliced tomatoes, mozzarella slices, and a drizzling of olive oil.

‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!
I am awed. Incredible plotting, great pacing, wonderful imagery. And so hot. Thanks so much for this incredible chapter.

Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)
OMG!!!!!! I miss this story! Pretty please continue!
Wow I just finished reading. I agree with everyone. If you can please continue this.
Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.
What can I Say – wow – great update thank you so much.
A fan fiction timeline: In the beginning: Bring it all on. … After Portia: It’s done been broughten.
Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.
I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
You have to finish this! I read this entire series in 6 weeks, and can’t wait to see what happens in the end. So much better than the show.
